W203 C Class internal computer issue?

Hi all, I wonder if there is a problem with the internal computer or wiring!

I have recently purchased a 2001 model C Class estate w203 chassis, It is an import to Malaysia where I live from the UK. I might also mention this is my first Mercedes.
The car runs like a dream (so far) however I am slowly finding little things that are not correct,

I have consult workshop light comes on SRS which the previous owner says it has been like this for four years and he keeps taking it back for a computer reset.
How do I find out what is wrong here?

Every time I turn off the car and remove the key the clock resets to 12:00 but this morning I notice that actually everything resets the trips after start and trips after reset although I am not resetting anything. Is this a computer issue?

Where is the computer if this is the problem and how to fix this?

The climate control operates the fan but the airflow cannot be changed on the control unit, The heater does not heat when the temperature knobs are turned.
Is this likely a control unit problem or something deeper?

The electrically heated seats don't seem to work either.

These may be non major issues or they well be more serious, I am keen to slowly get things back the way they should be if I can get some guidance. I have ordered the Haynes book from the UK but not yet arrived so i am still in the dark a bit.

Hope someone can shed some light onto some possible causes and fixes.

Unfortunately there are quite a few computers in your car and it is not a simple question of just 'resetting' one of them.

What you should really do is take the car to an MB dealer or to a speciality with MB STAR computer.

STAR will scan the car's various Electronic Control Units (ECU) and read any stored or active fault codes. Based on the faults found, you could decide what action to take.

STAR can also be used to reset the SRS light (but obviously if the underlying fault is still there then the SRS light will come back).

In the meantime you could try disconnecting the battery for 15 minutes as a crude way of resetting the ECUs, thought it is not likely to achieve much without fixing the actual faults first - and additionally some fault information is stored in the ECUs and will not be erased in this way.

Thanks for the remarks, Is it safe to disconnect the battery without a back battery attached? I have read that disconnecting the battery will cause other problems.

Hi Guys,

Well I took the advice and went to the workshop and put the car on the star computer. The work shop comes up as no fault on the SRS. Showed quite a few on the climate control bellows not sure what to do there!!
The guy reset it back again and said they would need 2 days to check if there is a wiring issue somewhere. At a huge cost I might add.
After the reset all is ok until I had a new radio /GPS fitted. Actually the same day but different workshop.
After fitting the new radio the SRS, Restraint System Visit Workshop warning is back on again. I am not sure what to think!

Markjay, Thanks for your earlier comment, With regards to disconnecting the battery, If I do this, when I connect will I have to reset anything else? or will all remain ok?
The car is the w203 c class estate 2001 model.
