Hi

I have removed my alternator for repair, and while I am at it I thought I would cure the rattle coming from the fan belt tensioner, it appears that the shock absorber bushes are worn, but I have removed the bolts I can see but the tensioner does not want to be removed from the engine, I thought there were just 2 bolts holding it on but I have removed about 6 and it still wont budge. I have still got the pulley attached and the shock absorber is attached at the bottom.

Does the pulley have to be removed and are there any hidden bolts I havn't seen, I dont want to force it and break it.

Any advice would be welcome.

It is a 2002 C180 W203 2ltr petrol engine.

Cheers

Derek

You need to tension it until it stops and then pin the tensioner with something like a drill bit in order to remove the second bolt, you should see a hole in the tensioner and one in the housing.
