As above..... My next service is due in march for a A service, I've only covered 1700 miles since the last B service, Mercedes want £986 for the privalage ... where are the independent specialists in the southwest???

Avantgarde

They are in Somerset and have a good reputation

Steve is the contact there

Is this the 3rd year service if so you will have the trans fluid change which is around 300 included in this. Spark plugs are around 200 fitted.
Have a look at my service it will tell you what is needed
Saving can be had on oil, dealers charge between £100-150 usually supply your own. Same with trans fluid I did this and saved my self around £220 just on oil.
My A service this time after supplying my own oil and removing air filters as I have Bmc is £210.

1700 miles? I wouldnt even bother. Maybe change the oil tops.

Gled i doubt it needs the plugs doing if hes done 1700 miles in a year.

Mine is due this month , Merc Southend have quoted me £750 . This is without a gearbox fluid change , as that was done under warranty when it developed a leak last year . It does include a loan car for the day . Too much ? If so who should I use ?

See my post above.

I'm tempted by the service plan but I'm not sure of any decent service centres within London... I've heard a few stories.

Can anyone recommended a good Merc dealer service centre in London?

Not London but I regularly use Southend & Chelmsford , both seem to do a good job . If you want a indie then Motor Aid at Hainault are very good , lot of ex Merc techs work there . Speak to Steve Cooke , he's a nice guy .

It's kind of pointless saying you are being charged $XXX amount for a service. You need to provide details on what extra works are being done on the car.
For example, I was quoted c£750 for my A service which included ATF and brake fluid change. My B service quote on the other hand was £450 which only included air filter change.

I haggled both times and managed to get between 20-25% off the quoted price and fitting the air filter myself.

I think A service cost me around £570 and B service is going to cost me £290 + £20 I spent buying BMC filter cleaning kit.

Another well regarded indie is Wayne Gates - already contributed further up the thread.

No help for you being in the Southwest but I just had an A service on my car on Friday plus Brake Fluid change and all Spark plugs changed for £500 including a loan car. Local Indy quoted £480 using genuine parts so I thought I'd try the dealer (MB Teesside) to see what they'd do it for as the car has full MBSH. Figured it was worth paying the extra £20 to maintain the dealer service history.

Proves it's worth getting a quote elsewhere and then challenging the dealer to come somewhere near!

My C63 amg estate has just had 'A' service at Mercedes Exeter, cost £250 with me supplying the Oil and they supplied a loan car.

I did haggle them down to get that deal though, if you don't ask, you don't get
