Hi all,

Today when I went to use my car I noticed the guard / plastic corrugated bit that usually sits around the selector lever (to prevent dirt / debris ingress into the mechanism) has disappeared. I know why this happened since last time I used the car a wire got stuck in there (fell out from the cubby hole below the stereo) and I struggled to remove it.

Obviously this is a concern since if something falls in it could stop me selecting a gear. I will be extremely careful and have nothing loose in the car now :)

But... I obviously need to get it fixed. How much of a job is it? I know how to take the surrounding panel off but don't really fancy opening up the mechanism itself so will probably take to a specialist.

Is it pretty easy to get to once the selector is removed from the car? Or does the whole thing have to be stripped to get to this part. I understand it is the shutter, listed here as part 113: FLOOR SHIFT USED WITH AUTOMATIC FIVESPEED TRANSMISSION 722.6. Fits: 1999 Mercedes CLK 430 | Mercedes-Benz of South Atlanta

Thanks...

Apparently these are sealed units and I got to get myself a whole new selector.

My chassis number is: WDB 208 4472T002229
Part quoted as replacement: A 202 267 0824

Only slight concern is some online pictures show the later +/- shifter rather than the old school one I have.

EPC lists part A1292670026 as being valid for your 208447. description is shutter, costs under £20 from MB

valid for 208447

ident F 129678 T 028295
Except code 800
also installed from F 129679 T 028296 with code 809

The A 202 267 0824 is the complete unit, and costs around £500, I know what part I would try first :)

This part is sealed and for facelifts tiptronic. Based on what you're saying "old school" type with 3/2/1 selection is yours, then as you posted in that link is correct with part 113, shutter , and as markmifsud suggested.

Hi all,

This is exactly what I thought. I purchased the shutter and took my car to a garage where one of the guys used to work for MB main dealer. After he started he said that it was sealed and that vehicles earlier than 2000 had a different part fitted and this could be stripped down to replace the shutter.

Also when I called in to Mercedes they said the same thing when I quoted my chassis number.

My car is a 2000 CLK 230K

Thanks....

I had a look at the part number on my gear selector it is A 202 267 0637. I will order a complete new one of these since there seems no way to dismantle it and change the shutter by what I am told.

All - So I have now spoken to somebody else locally who says it is possible. I think the other person I asked didn't want to take the job on. He mainly does MOT's these days.

AR27.60.P-0920B is the process but it looks involved.

Does anybody know how much labour this would be in hours approx?
