W211 E270 Oil Filter size

Hi all,
What size of a wrench/socket do you need for removal and installation of the oil filter in a 2004 W211 E270 CDI?

Hi,
Welcome to the forum, T30 to remove the engine cover, then according to my old Laser catalogue it is a 76mm socket with 14 flutes. Obviously other retailers will sell you a similar socket.

I checked my current tool, I have 74mm 14 flutes... had to say it bites in pretty hard when opening, need some whack to remove tool...

Hi,
Because I thought my eyes were failing, I checked this again in the Laser Catalogue, item 3117 is a 3/8 drive 76/14,........ however item 3801 is a 1/2" drive 74/14,..... then I found that the following caveat applies :-
" Before ordering it's best to try to measure the oil filter and count the number of flutes on the cap, as even the same model of car with the same engine can be fitted with different oil filters during its production run."
So the answer is, to physically measure your cap, as one of 2 sizes cap may be fitted.
