W211 E63 Engine Temperature Spike

Driving in slowish traffic after driving at motorway speed and noticed the engine temp on the E63 rising from the usual 100C to 114C. Not seen this happen before and as soon as i got some speed up the temp dropped again.

Is this a cause for concern or usual behaviour?

Oil recently changed and seems to be at the right levels, and water temps fine?

This happened to me recently that on kickdown in my E270 CDI.
Here is my list to check overheating issues:
1- Coolant Level (see its not dropping or losing coolant)
2- Cooling fan (Aux fan, yours will have variable speed fan)
3- Thermostat (check if it is opening up at the specified temperature, mine opened at 92C)
4- Radiator (clogging up or loosing its efficiency to cool)

Absolutely faultless today - pegged at 100.
Will check your recommendations out at the weekend. Feels like the thermostat was stuck and released...
