I bet it was mate, well done on finding it, for me real work was the reason I didn't find the time to fix it. lol

Was well worth it in the end, great result and gives you a feeling of achievement and that the gremlins can't beat you.

Drat, went to move the car at work today and keyless entry wouldn't work.

Quick scan on Star and the Keyless Door Module is no longer there on the CAN bus, got power to it and the CAN connections so looks like this one has failed too, proper bummer.

Let me speak out lout to gather my thoughts on what may be wrong. ;)

    1. Right module fitted was faulty.
    2. Left module had broken wires in door hinge, worked when this was fixed.
    3. Right module goes faulty after a few days (little use).
    4. Fair to assume that if fitting another this may also go faulty again.

I'm guessing the wiring on the right side may be the same and causing intermittent connections.

Gonna strip this out tomorrow morning to see.

Exactly what I did this morning, stripped drivers side wide from the rear door hinge.

Couldn't find any broken wires so was starting to worry, then after cleaning up a bit found this:

    20170927_151452.jpg

These are power, ground and CAN wires.

My assumption is that the wire have been wrapped so tight that the CAN signal has been shorting to the +12 or GND connection.

Fingers crossed, but when all other possibilities have been eliminated, you are only left with the obvious.

Hopefully get another module to test over the next day or so.

Had some time today so finally managed to get round to fixing this.

I removed the wires where the insulation was cracked from their connector housings so that I could slide some heatshrink sleeving down them, didn't want to cut them.
Didn't want to only use PVC tape as thought it would look a bit dodgy although I did use a small amount to further insulate the crack on the wire insulation.

    20171007_142552.jpg

Checked all the other wires then wrapped the harness again in fabric tape.

All back together, tested and all locking & unlocking functions working correctly, thanks to Alps^ for sorting me out replacement modules.

Funny thing I noticed though was that initially when testing on Star the modules reported Left/Right round the wrong way.
Swapping them round had them reporting correctly via Star.

That leads me to believe that although the modules have the same part number there must be some way to write to their memory to store their location.
    Anyone confirm this?

    Arghhhhhh...................I think it hates me.

Not been driven, spent all week inside being polished and waxed.

Went to open the drivers door this morning and nothing, lock (push) button works but no response from the unlock (pull) button.

Quick check on Star and the unlock button does not toggle when pressed, the lock button does.

Looks like I may now need a handle!

Have to say I’ve never seen or heard of so many issues with the keyless system before - you’ve been unlucky but on the plus side it should be good as new once sorted! :thumb:

The handles aren’t all that expensive new, I think the last one I bought brand new from Mercedes pre-finished in 744 silver was around £150 including VAT and obviously comes with 2-years warranty etc.

5 minute job to replace fortunately.

Obvious test the handle manually with a multimeter first (and/or swap it over with another one for testing purposes)

If you’re really keen and want to go for refurb from the place in the link I’ve got a cosmetically good keyless 744 drivers handle spare you could use if it helps.

Cheers, should be, have to say when it works I do like it, never had it on any of the cars before.

At around £125 net it would make sense just to order new rather than pay €99 plus the shipping charge to send the old handle.

Just done that, the handles read, (useful for anyone else with similar problems).

    Open/Pull Switch 300 Ohms

    Push/Lock Switch 470 Ohms

Checked the drivers handle and it had a notable squish when the Pull switch was actuated.

Pulled this apart (now it is knackered), they have a 470 & 300 Ohm resistor inside connected to the 2 micro switches. The Pull micro switch is reading high impedance when pressed.

Cheers, drop me a PM and let me know how much and what is wrong with it, maybe I could make one out of two!
