Hi All,

I spend a fair amount of my sunday evenings on my E55, which is generally in good shape:

But I'm struggling with the bottom of the windows. Seems to be bad watermarking or staining of some kind. It only shows when really close up, but its bugging me.

Any suggestions or help greatly appreciated :D

Thanks,
-tom

i would also welcome any suggestions as mine are in the same condition......are they easy to remove and spray ? (sorry to butt into your post fyingpan78 )

t-cut, clay to start with if thats no good then it will be either spray job or vynll wrap them

Hi, sorry but I cannot make out from the pictures are these black or chrome?

They look black to me.

I had exactly this problem on my E270 (which was black), albeit not as bad. No such issue on the E500 (Silver).

They can't be polished, I tried everything. Only solution would be to remove them and spray them. Satin Black should work fine.

Hi Tom,

I would give it a very good clean with APC, dry and give a good rub with a microfiber then treat with some Gtechniq C4 Permanent Trim Restorer.

If you are anywhere near Kent then I'm happy to do it for you.

Thanks all,

Yes they are an odd, almost anodised black.

Chessers - thanks for the offer :) ill have another go myself over the next couple of weeks and see how I get on.

Failing that, anyone know if they come off easily enough?

Aha ok.

Off they come then....

The staining is caused by windscreen wash additive etching the anodising.

Can always try vinegar and see what happens as this will sometime helps with marks, although as Dieselman says if they have been etched by a chemical it probably will not do you any good.

Which is one reason I don't use my windscreen washers.
I don't want cleaning agent running all over my car.

I'd sooner/ rather clean the windscreen by hand.

In fact, I am considering swapping out my screen wash for detailing spray.

Rash, you really need to get a grip. I am surprised you just don't drive a CLK63 on the Playstation to keep yours clean!!!

I seem to recall virtual car washes in that game too...

;)

Lol!:D

Oi!

It's the small things that people don't think about that keep a car looking fresh

Surely you don't drive yours in the rain :thumb::thumb:

Imagine the marks on the window by the wipers alone...

Correct. No rain.

"Half-moon" wiper marks on windscreens is one of my pet hates
