W212 reversing camera configuration

Hi guys,
I have an opportunity to purchase the factory fitted components for a W212 estate reversing camera which I understand to be:

1. Reversing camera that connects to the boot handle (just above number plate)
2. Cable from camera to control unit (and onward to COMMAND)
3. Cable from control unit to rear SAM
4. Control unit
5. Maybe - the estate boot handle is required too. Mine has what looks like a filled in cut out in the position
6. Maybe - a wire cover or something to stop the control unit bouncing around


I wish to install these components into my 2010 W212 Estate
From the internet I can see how to get into COMMAND engineering mode and enable the camera but I also have read on this forum that one needs some special code from MB to get this working.

Does anyone know which is true? Can I can simply enable the reversing camera in COMMAND to get this working after installation, or do I have to get an MB dealer to update some database before it works? I think I have COMMAND 4.5 but I'm not sure (What I do know is the SAT NAV takes 7 character post codes).

Before parting with money I want to make sure it is all worth it because the MB dealer will no doubt charge me for the privilege or maybe wouldn't do it at all which would be a total waste!

I have heard the reversing camera is not that great, the screen doesn't show you any distance markers or anything so you can't get a good perspective. Might be worth considering as the parking sensors are probably enough.

I would get in touch with either Mark or Richard at Comand Online as this retrofit is one of many they carry out.

You need all those parts plus the coax loom that runs to the back of the comand. Most of these cables are intertwined with existing looms so are not that easy to get out!

2010 W212 will be NTG 4.

You can enable it in engineering mode and it should work but if the car goes into MB and gets SCN coded or firmware then its going to stop working and will need re-enabling.

When we do it, we do all the coding via SCN so it wouldnt get disabled in future.

He means when "Comand (Europe) Ltd" install COMAND systems or genuine reverse cameras etc etc (see Mercedes Retrofit Specialist - Comand.co.uk we do the retrofit properly and update the records at Mercedes and then use the proper tools to code the car (online Star Diagnosis)
