My 2003 W220 S500L seems to have developed a problem with the alarm, or maybe the boot catch, which is triggering the alarm.

A couple of days ago I left the headlights on accidentally for an hour or so. This was after nearly a week of not running and it drained the battery just enough to prevent the car turning over when trying to start.

Since then the alarm has been triggering after a few hours of standing. Once triggered it seems to happen reasonably often. I've also notices that the boot is no longer self latching. Instead it snatches the chrome handle in as soon as the boot is pushed down and leaves the catch on the first click. Previously the chrome handle would only retract after several seconds of being closed.

With little knowledge of these cars as I haven't had it long, I'm guessing the boot issue is possibly causing the alarm triggers and the battery drain (with heavy voltage drop when trying to turn over) has upset the boot and maybe the alarm too.

The alarm doesn't trigger when the car is unlocked.

Sorry for rambling a little.

Has anyone any ideas how this could be resolved?

Thanks.

On Saturday night the car was parked in a garage away from the house and either the alarm or whatever is setting it off managed to completely drain the battery.

Looks like it will have to go to a dealer or specialist.

It waking the kids is not going down well!!

It appears the alarm siren was the culprit.

Thanks to a very knowledgeable member on another forum.
