w221 s320cdi
Hi. I have a S320 CDI lwb, it has started playing up the last few months. I am at a lost at what to do.

The car starts up find from cold, so in the mornings no problem. But after driving a few miles, if I switch it of, it will not start again. Not even crank. I get a red message appearing on dash saying drive to workshop without changing gear

Have had it diagnosed by main dealer who says can be a host of items and have suggested changing various units without guarantying a fix.

I went to an independent specialist who diagnosed it as having a faulty gear select module, he replaced it but this has not fixed the issue.

Now I have been told that it may be the engine ecu/gateway.

Has anyone heard of this fault before, all suggestions welcome.
Thanks

Did any of the specialists read off any codes?

If so, can you post them?

It could be a faulty EIS unit (the bit where you put the key). If it won't crank then it's not disarming the immobiliser for some reason.

Have you got a spare key you can try? That would at least rule out a faulty key transponder.
