Wallpaper on iPad

I'm trying to change my wallpaper on my iPad.
I select a picture but it blows the picture up?!
I can't make it fit to screen?!

I found the same thing, the way I got round it (which is a bit of a bodge) was to view the picture as normal then take a screen shot using the top & home buttons then use that screen shot as the wallpaper. That way it didn't mess up the sizing.
