The problem I am getting when the car is up to temperature about 87c after a while it drops to 80c after a short time it goes back to 87c then back to 80c and so on it never goes past the normal temp
It's a 2014 c class w204
Does any one know what the problem could be?
Many thanks john

It's most likely the thermostat, it is not closing properly. Very common issue on this engine.

Once the engine is at normal temperature it should stay there spot on. Had this problem on our C220 CDI 2005 (same engine but not the EVO type like in your car)

We got a genuine thermostat from MB (circa £50) plus 1.5 L of MB neat coolant (circa £12) and changed the thermostat and the needle now sits at 85C and doesn't move. Slight improvement in fuel economy and better warm up times.

Apologies mate I thought I had read 'c220' somewhere in your post but just re read it now and you did not mention c220 anywhere.

Is yours a 220CDI?

Right so I was wrong there :).

My money is on a faulty thermostat. Good luck
