BBC 4 last night. Anyone watch Roy Orbison and friends a black and white night. I've seen it before but it's a very special concert and you can see all of the friends, the TCB band, Bruce Springsteen, Elvis Costello and others have great respect and love for The big O. He was truly a legend.

Great sound on this recording - frankly I think it's better than the studio album Abraxas. To me there is a richness in this performance that is not quite there on the album...what do you think?

Sat on my daily commute and listening to System of a Down’s first, self titled album.

Not only is it superb especially as a debut it’s also slightly depressing i bought it when it came out...20 years ago!

Walden: The story of transcendentalist Henry David Thoreau who in the 1800s lived an austere lifestyle for 2 years, 2 months and 2 days in a tiny self built house in a forest near Concord, Massachusetts.

Considered by many as one of the best pieces of (anti establishment) writing to emerge from the US, Thoreau questions the basis of contemporary society, especially the focus on land ownership, land rental and the cradle to grave spiritual and sometimes financial indebtedness that both pursuits often lead to.

Fascinating in that not only does it paint a vivid picture of waspish north eastern USA, but goes on to highlight the beginnings of issues now blighting western societies.

Listening to BBC Radio Lincolnshire. Excellent presenters, interesting shows and a wide range of music. Almost always daily, one ELO song, which is a treat [emoji3]

Peter Green is criminally underrated. Fantastic player and vocalist in his day.

My personal favourite is Dragonfly. I believe Danny Kirwan played lead, just one of the many blokes in the ever changing lineup

Poor old Peter Green and Danny Kirwan had their brains fried after a trip to Germany. Neither the same again.
Some great Youtube videos featuring Peter Green today explaining a lot of what happened back then and why he quit.

The lineup after Peter and Danny left just catered to the soft rock US market and not a patch on the original band IMO.

100% agree.

John McVie once said he’d give anything to play the blues with the original lineup again.

Gee, there's a few weeks worth of material to go through there Gents.

In the meantime you might like these guys Birma, little bit "whisky pop rock and roller" but worth a rummage through their material in any case - something fresh out of the US that isn't getting much mainstream coverage....
