Wits end sourcing a part for my S500

Hi guys. Can anybody give me an idea of where to find a MAF for my '96 S500? MB part number 000 0940148. MB don't do them anymore and Bosch UK can do me one but only as a one-off and with a 12 week waiting time. Euro car parts and all the usual suspects don't have one. I've called dozens of MB specialists and have come up empty handed so far. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Steve.

I would keep your old one and do a post mortem on it? Its probably the platinum? filament that has gone on it but it would be interesting to see if that was the problem.
ps Sorry to be the bearings of bad tidings but are you sure its the MAF itself- have you checked that filament visually- this car does come from the era when engine wiring loom insulation goes bad which might explain the problem- just be very careful when handling the MAF wiring when fittting the new one.

All I can do is to hope that the technician has checked the wiring as he said. They're pretty reputable and their parking area is full of Mercs so I'll have to assume that it is what they say. The part arrived today and is being fitted tomorrow so I'll be able to post up and let you know.

Found a little more on these Hot wire MAFs unfortunately doesn't give specific Mercedes information but does detail how to check them once the connections are known. I was interested to note that on engine shut off the platinum sensor wire is routinely heated to 1000 degrees for 1 second to burn off contaminants and its this process that is likely to determine filament life!

Thanks horatio. I managed to get a second hand one off a running car. I'm yet to hear back from the garage though.

I should have looked at my log book because I remembered my car being an N plate 96 but it's a 95 which means the MAF is a different design.

I had a similar issue with my W210 wich was on a 52 plate (either 2003 or 2002 registered) and was in fact manufactured in 2001.

I'm finally on the way to collect the barge! Turns out it wasn't the MAF but a water damaged coil, apparently.

What, from washing the engine..?

I would keep a hold of both MAFs you have now as they seem to be a very rare commodity--- one on the car and one for spares obviously!

Not got a clue. It all seems a bit ropey to me but I've got the car sat on the drive and is going to be detailed within an inch of its life over Sunday and Monday. It'll be sold soon and I can move on to something else. I've loved owning a W140 but it's defo time to move on.
