    Where has this Disaster Originated?

I don't know what all the panic is about, I'm not seeing exponential growth of cases. Whatever you think of PCR tests, all the data I'm looking at from my local area, county and national level shows the numbers are dropping or at least beginning to level out. Hospitalisation and deaths will...

    Can oil last 20,000 miles?

Even though mine warns an oil change is due every 12 months which means it's not Flexible Assyst, it still asks for confirmation of 229.3 or 229.5 spec oil when being reset. Perhaps the choice of spec would influence a prompt for an oil change before 12 months if the miles covered were very...

    Can oil last 20,000 miles?

I've heard about these VW Pump Duse engines that drive the injector pumps off the cam. The VW oil spec for those engines must be amongst the best or even the best available. More than good enough for a MB ?

    Can oil last 20,000 miles?

As Rory said above, the answer is on the US oil forum Bob Is The Oil Guy but frankly your eyes might glaze over before you found it. From memory it was as much as 1000 miles but I might be wrong.

    Can oil last 20,000 miles?

Actually it's possible there is. A report showed that the build up of anti-wear coating on engine surfaces was removed by the new oil so that wear rates increased for a period until the coating was built up again. I'm a fan of regular oil changes and do mine every 5000 miles which for me is...

    Can oil last 20,000 miles?

I think the evidence is plain to see. Even though it was safe and suitable for some users, manufacturers have backed away from a 2 year/20,000 mile service interval. If Mercedes and others think it was a step too far then you can be sure it was. There was a more sensible alternative to a...

    Can oil last 20,000 miles?

Very high quality oil could last 20,000 miles under the most ideal conditions which would be exclusively very long trips and and the minimum number of cold starts. That's excludes most of us so it would be reckless to recommend a 20,000 miles oil change interval for general use.

That little red spot on new tyres .important

Doesn't surprise me that tyre fitting outlets don't fuss about them. The point of aligning the dots is you get to achieve a balanced wheel with the minimum amount of balance weights which has to be a good thing. My motorcycle tyres always have the dots and I make sure to mount them correctly...

    changing plugs and lubricants

I use copper grease on spark plug threads and and also reduce the specified torque setting to compensate for the reduced friction. Torque values are almost always specified for dry threads so when using any form of lubricant it's universally accepted that a reduction in applied torque is...

    Engine oil consumption

A 1 litre per 1000 miles oil consumption would only be acceptable if all engines of that type used that much oil. Only then would I believe it's a normal design parameter. The manufacturers statement is a standard claptrap get out clause that's been used by most manufacturers for 40 years...

2006 C180 sport locking from distance with fob but not unlocking using RF of IR

One of my keys started playing up recently which was no surprise as the battery hadn't been changed in over 5 years. What did surprise me is the old battery was only 0.2 volts down on the new one which suggests that the fobs are quite sensitive to battery voltage. I would measure the new one...

    19s yes or no

No one would design an ultra low profile wheel/tyre size combination on the basis of how it performed dynamically. Everything is against it in terms of extra unsprung weight and sufficient tyre sidewall to absorb shocks and protect the wheel/ suspension components. And that is before you even...

    Where has this Disaster Originated?

I tend to agree that the risk is still statistically low however whatever the magnitude of the problem is there is no denying that the rate of infections is growing. Even if that is viewed by some as not a a cause for current lock downs, it begs the question of how these people are getting...

    Where has this Disaster Originated?

It's really a list of mature manufacturing processes which many other countries can easily do with cheaper labour. Any future for UK manufacturing has to involve innovation that is harder for others to copy and the innovation has to be a continuous. As an example I started work 50 years ago...
