The OP isn't put off by a petrol model. It's the low availability of petrol model that are on the market that is the problem. I wouldn't touch a diesel, let alone one with ad-blue ,ever. Especially in traffic clogged and Citizen Khan London.

The immobiliser should release when a working key is put in the ignition lock. A locksmith won't be able to make a new key unless he has the means to programme it to work in your car. This means using Mercedes hardware which I doubt a local locksmith will have. This company can make a new key...

As above, take your V5 and some ID like a passport to a main dealer and order a new key. Be prepared for a bill of around £300 for a new key.

Has your specialist checked the coil packs? After the plugs, thats where I'd start. Has this specialist got Star diagnostics? I don't see how a remap would block any fault codes from appearing.
