I was wondering if I could make my millions by designing a contraption which holds the boot open a crack, but securely. Or a modification to the estate which allows the rear window to wind down, like on some SUVs.

If you hold down the open button in the drivers door to start it opening, then press it again, it stops where it is. Until you hit a bump and it bounces itself closed.

It bongs a couple of times. But then it lets it go. It doesn't throw the apoplectic fit it does when you leave your seatbelt off because you're only driving across a car park. :D

Believe me, the estate boot open a crack is a LOT more effective than rear windows open. And it doesn't need tunnels or cuttings to bounce the sound back to you.

Well that's the price quoted this time, to have it done in Macclesfield. The price on the invoice I have from it being done last year at Mercedes Skipton is £200 - although I think that's ex VAT.

Cynical answer - to try to stop you using independents... Tried to get a quote today for the next service on my C63. It's 4 years old, 30k miles. When I rang my local dealer, they adviced I use the website to check what was needed and get a quote, so that's what I did. Here are all the things...

There's the Mercedes dealer themselves of course, and I've heard good things about Nick Webster in Poynton. I'm sure there was one in Macclesfield itself too, but I can't remember the name for that one. I need someone who I can trust with a C63, who has access to the Mercedes servicing software...
