    So difficult!!

I went for a Pioneer unit for £60 for my S210, and did without the steering wheel controls, but then again, I don't have parking sensors to worry about.

Reading lights staying on if interior lighting set to turn on when doors opened

Neiltodd, That's what happened to me this morning. Luckily I have a starter pack, so I was able to get the car going again. Since then I've taken the rear roof light cluster apart and removed all the bulbs. So now the only lights that work are the ones at the front. When I took the cluster...

    W210 Radio Not Working

When mine went I ended up entering it several times over a period of a few weeks. Eventually the radio died one day as I was driving along, and I couldn't just stop the car and re-enter the code, so I continued on with my journey, and when I reached my destination I re-entered the code as per...

Reading lights staying on if interior lighting set to turn on when doors opened

Hello, I've got a rather odd problem with the internal lights on my S210, 2002, E220 diesel estate. If I set the interior lights to come on when the doors are opened, and turn off when they're closed, all works well for the front seats, but the rear main light and reading lights over the rear...

Oil leak near front of exhaust manifold on 611

Regarding the oil leak at the front of the engine. I think I may have solved the mystery. Last year I took the high-pressure fuel pump off to see if it was working properly. It was, but in order to remove it I also had to remove the vacuum pump. I think I damaged the oil seal behind the pump...

    Diesel smell in cabin

Hello again, I had a very close look at the front of the engine this morning to find out where the oil is coming from that's soaked the front of the alternator. It looks like the seal behind the vacuum pump has gone. Last year when I was taking everything apart to find out why the engine...

Oil leak near front of exhaust manifold on 611

mersum1es, I forgot to say in my last post that I read somewhere the Honda washers are not only thicker, but softer as well, so they squash down and fill the space between the bottom of the injector and the seat face in the cylinder head a little better than the Merc ones.

Oil leak near front of exhaust manifold on 611

mersum1es, Thanks for the pointers. It does look pretty excessive. I'll take some photos tomorrow and post them up. It's something that's been steadily getting worse over the past few months. It started out as a small puddle of oil in the engine undertray, but it's steadily got worse, and now...

    Diesel smell in cabin

amazighman, Thanks for that, I'll take a look in the morning. The smell in my cabin was more like burnt diesel than raw diesel though, so I'm not sure that it's the high pressure pump or fuel lines. However, I did take the pump apart last winter to find out if it was worn. It wasn't, so I...

    Glow Plug Starting

I had something very similar to your problem last winter. It turned out to be a faulty injector. Do a leak down test before you spend any money out, as I was told it was likely to be either fuel filter or glow plug. I ended up replacing all the glow plugs (and 3 of them broke getting them out...

Oil leak near front of exhaust manifold on 611

Hello, I've got a 2002, E220 diesel auto estate, and I've just spent the last day and a half lifting the four injectors and reseating them with the thicker (2.4mm) Honda washers, and of course new bolts. As I was putting it back together I noticed that the front of the engine is getting soaked...

    Diesel smell in cabin

M80, I agree with your comments about W210. I've had mine for 2 1/2 yrs, and in that time I've had to shell out on some expensive items. Today I finished lifting and reseating all four injectors, with Honda sealing washers, as they're thicker (2.4mm!). It took me over 2 hours to get no. 4...

    Diesel smell in cabin

M80, Thanks for the advice about plugging the hole. I've already removed no. 1 injector as you could see from the photos. I then put some paper towel into the injector hole while I scraped around the area with a screwdriver to remove the goop. After that I used my wet and dry vacuum cleaner...

    Diesel smell in cabin

Just found another excellent site for hints and tips on what to do when you get the black death. It's on this link Mercedes Diesel Injector Seal Replacement – Notes I read through the article, then read all the comments underneath, and very enlightening they were too. I must admit it makes me...
