Golf GTI MK5 is a good shout if you can find a good one. I had an Edition 30 for a few years that had a reputable remap on it and it really flew. Focus RS MK1 but these are pricey now, still look great to me.

I quite fancy a C Class estate up to £5k, ideally I would look at something like a W204 C250 CDI as it offers good performance and reasonable running costs. I have seen a few nice looking W203 320 CDI for sale and wondered what they are like? I do all my own maintenance and repairs so upkeep...

Turns out it was the gear selector assembly, i dont know the final cost but it wasnt cheap at around £800 for a new part.

It's off to a specialist next week so will see what happens, was told a new conductor plate if it is that wouldn't need coding but my dad didn't fancy the job as he's recovering from a heart attack at the moment.

Conductor plate looks fairly common and not too tricky to replace so will see what happens.
