    The EV fact thread

Been some interesting comments on the push towards EV's in the USA recently following the news of the new 2032 US tailpipe rules . Namely the madness of handing the US auto industry, which not long ago represented 7% of the US's gross domestic product, on a plate to China.

What would you drive out of these 3 choices

Have to be either the Cortina or the Morris Ital. Solely due to both of these cars now being 40 +years old hence now classed as historics so MOT & tax free with only classic insurance to pay for. The Cavalier is too new i am afraid as it was registered in November 1984 so it still requires an...

    The EV fact thread

You do realise a good proportion of the raw material for producing bio fuels comes from food waste? It is already in existence thanks to food production. Yes it is no surprise NGO's funded by 'clean energy' money (www.transportenvironment.org) hate bio fuels. Always puzzles me how these...

    Because of the dogleg gearbox?

2.1l Diesel does not like idle for long periods

Pretty sure it is not illegal at all to run or idle your engine to defrost prior to driving.

    Auction question.

How much would a dealer pay at auction? How long is a piece of string. Historically demand is high at this time of year. New year new start etc. Probably best just to ask Lex the direct question how much they would take for the van. Bon chance!

    Auction question.

I would say do not expect a bargain at a commercial vehicle auction. Also before paying the deposit (last one i entered required a £2000 deposit) to take part in the auction make sure you are fully aware of the fees as some charge a fair bit, all plus vat as well. It all adds up.

    Immaculate 190e

You could be right. Still always best to proceed cautiously when faced with a 190e 1.8 on offer for ten thousand pounds. There is a fella near me who has a stunning 190e evo1 which cost him just four thousand more than that, albeit that was well over a decade ago.

The one to have is the 2.6, preferably with option 650 indicating a sportline chassis. However a perfect base model 190 also is a fine car. Lots of them about still so worth taking your time test driving a few different models to see which suits you.

You could well be right. The OE front flaps do have a piece that extends up the front wing sacco panel.

No front armrest is a major faux pas. Essential on a w201, even a manual. Also no mention of a sunroof in the ad which would be unusual for a w201. That car would have to be in concours condition to be worth anything near the asking price imo.

    Rather a passive aggressive response.

Have no idea what a Genesis is? Lets see how many are actually quality products that are still on the road in 30 years time, like many Mercedes ICE's are.

    Immaculate 190e

The wings sacco panel edge should be all one colour, not black with what looks like a masking line. Unless the car has some oddly designed aftermarket mudflaps fitted?

    The EV fact thread

For me the Mercedes mantra of the best or nothing is far more persuasive aspirational concept than the apparent as long as it is battery powered it will do maxim of many EV manufacturers. See Tesla and Polestar. Or those MG EV's that do not even have tinted glass as standard. Reminds me of a...
