Excellent Prepurchase inspection and a big Lemon

Well the broken foglight is clearly visible in the ebay photos, as are the loose threads on the steering wheel. The rear arch doesn't look 100% in the ebay advert either, but perhaps the benefit of the inspection made me look more closely. Is it the best 150k miler out there - no Is it typical...

CLK270 Fuel Consumption; What to expect?

I ran one from new back in 2003 for 5 months and ca 4500 miles. At the time I had a short 5 mile commmute, lightly traffic'd in the mornings but more queueing in the eveings. I used to get 40mpg on the commute, rising to high 40s t the weekend with steady 10 mile shopping trips. Overall, I...

Bought an R129 unseen - a Cautionary Tale...

Well the ebay photo was clearly taken on Rutland Street, a few yards from Trade Car Centre. If you look on Google there is even a SL on the street (same colour, different wheels/indicators). I'd be worried about the ownership of the car - the guy is no longer part of Trade Centre, so was...

New A class or GLA - Need some info please

I think you'd struggle to find a basic GLA for your budget, never mind one with Command. I've been looking on the configurator as a potential company car option, and even the smallest diesel engine, in lowest sport spec is nigh on £30k with some of the cheaper optional extras. Given the GLA...

    W205 which engine???

Don't let the 25% discount on the bimmer sway you - thats the standrd discount on the bigger engines models, and has been for over a year. Just reflects the markets view of the MRRP across the range, but especially the upper models. Hard to know what compares in the C class, but a similar...

Use of 'summer' tyres below 7 degrees

Well i logged in again this year to see whether Bill had changed his views, nice to things haven't changed ! The often quoted temperature of 7'C is the average daytime temperature - bear in mind most people commuting at 6-8am and again at 5-8pm are driving at temperatures lower than the daily...

Non Winter Tyre Thread Type Thread

Well i couldn't find RE050s for anything like that price (bear in mind there are about 25 variants of that tyre !) so i went for Falken ZE912s and in the limited use they had before fitting appropriate wheels and tyres for winter they seemed every bit, if not better, than the Bridgestones...

    Winter tyres.. a little warning?

Way too big in daimeter. You can work it out easily for yourself.. Take your existing tyre size - 225/40/18.. 18 wheel diameter = 18" x 25.4 = 457.2mm add tyre walls = 225 x 40/100 x 2 = 180mm add the two to get overall wheel diameter = 637.2mm do the same for 215/70/16 and...

goodyear winter tyre sock wrong size

Based on the info in the eby advert, then the various sizes listed against size G are all around 637-647mm overall wheel/tyre diameter and 185-225mm tyre width. Your 225/40/18s are 637.2mm diameter so size G appears to be correct as per the advert. Size I is listed on ebay advert as...

    Winter tyres.. a little warning?

Provided the tyre circumference is consitent with the 18" tyre then you are fine, so 205/55/16 or 225/50/16 are near enough the same as 225/40/18 If you were daft enough to put 225/40/16 on then the speedo would be out.

Which normal tyres (Not Snow tyres..) Budget / branded etc..

For such a low mileage i'd be tempted to fit an all season, or even winter tyre and use it all round. Hankook are pretty expensive these days, almost Conti prices or more. Vredstein Quatrac would be my choice as a proven all rounder.

    Winter Tyres Rock!

It would, but every interview i've seen with AA/RAC/Transport body 'experts' over recent days on various news channels has made not one mention of winter tyres, or even snow socks. I endured some numpty on the radio this mornign saying large falls of snow are unusual in the UK and we will...
