    The Complete M272 Engine Thread

OK well if you go down that route I would get a written description of the fault including engine error codes. Then get a quote that the the garage will stand by. Is that garage in question an MB specialist or an all brands specialist?

Sl 55 AMG - Boot Problem - Soft Close not working and car saying boot not closed

That's the spirit! I can't imagine the supercharger whine getting old any time soon :D

    The Complete M272 Engine Thread

Actually I am open to correction on this but might not be an engine out job. I woke up this morning remembering a MB service video I saw before where they fed the chain through with the casings intact. Not sure if that could be done engine in. Either way though, you don't want buying a car...

    The Complete M272 Engine Thread

I would say it is closer to a £3k job. That is based on the fact that multiple people have told me that timing that engine is a complex task, along with the fact that the engine will have to come out for it. I am also suspect about the stretched chain comment. If the balance shaft stuff was...

    The Complete M272 Engine Thread

Hi JB, That sounds suspicious to me. Without knowing the full details it's sounds suspect and I would walk away and not look back. Any timing related repair is likely to be more than the value of the car. Was the garage trying to say the stretched chain was not a problem? Because the code that...

Sl 55 AMG - Boot Problem - Soft Close not working and car saying boot not closed

How did it cost the third brake light? From slamming shut? I just replaced mine and don't fancy doing again lmao.

Sorry to hear about your bad luck. Do you mean 113 thousand as opposed to 11 thousand?

    Shock absorber top mounts

Fitted new Bilstein mounts (£67 delivered) today. Quick job. Used impact wrench to open/close the nut at top of strut. Chuffed to have saved myself a heap of cash. I see MB only sell the mounts with shock absorbers. So would have been looking at about 300-350 for parts and a garage to fit for...

    Yet another E500 S212!

Awh lads, this is a dreadful thread. I can't bare to watch all these fine examples, of possibly one of the best combinations in the world. That 500 engine in a E class estate. The just was out for me on the 500 for 12 months as the mounts in my R230 were shot.. but thanks to @alexanderfoti they...

    Shock absorber top mounts

Here's another little update. I have ordered two top mounts but I don't think they come with the rubber inserts. I've been told by one person (motor factors) you just swap out the rubber from old part and another guy (RAC Engineer) says it won't work as pressing into the new aluminium part...

    Shock absorber top mounts

Hi everybody, Looks like the the top mounting portion of my rear shock (E Class estate) has give way. It looks like MB (EPC) don't list the top mount separately, but I can see them online. I am going to source some tomorrow and go about putting them on. Anything I need to know in that...

Meet up at ACE Engineering, Billingshurst, W Sussex, Sat 31st Oct 2020

Apologies for my late reply also. I thoroughly enjoyed my first ever MB meetup! Lovely people and conversation. @Jobsworth was a fantastic host with a number of impromptu tutorials and pop quizzes :) Thanks so much to @MissyD for organising! It was also great fun to have a little look and...

Closing in on the valve stem seals vs piston rings question.

Fair, makes sense.. Do MB OEM offer pistons in staged sizes or would you be going totally aftermarket on this. Would the rebore be of enough significance to offer extra BHP?

Closing in on the valve stem seals vs piston rings question.

Ok, I see. Honing remove very very fine wear/scores then. With reboring do the regular pistons provide enough clearance? The rope trick involves inserting some rope into the fully open cylinder and then turning the crank to get the piston to compress the rope and push it up into the valve area...
