    What's everyone listening to ?

Came across Knulp doing a cover version of Hotel California. She is truly amazing, plays every instrument herself and the video is a masterpiece of editing.

    Smart Meter

There was no indication on the IHD that gas was being used (with boiler on or cooking on the hob). Selecting 'meter reading' on the IHD menu, the reading was the same as the reading displayed on the meter, which never changed week on week. The electricity side of the IHD continued to display...

    Smart Meter

Our BG gas smart meter stopped recording usage a couple of years ago (I only knew because, being somewhat anal, I have always taken weekly readings of both gas and elec). After 2 weekly readings falsely showing that I had consumed no gas, I contacted BG only to be told there was no problem as...

"Electronic" Fuse - rear number plate light

I noticed that one of the number plate lights had failed a couple of days before the MOT. No problem I thought, just change the festoon, but no, it's an LED with its own lens which fits in to the traditional festoon bulb holder. So that's £14 thank you very much. Oh, and interestingly, the bulb...

    A class tailgate "rattle"

I had the same problem and found that it was the number plate loose in the MB holder. A couple of large blobs of silicon sealant on the back of the number plate sorted it.

Mercedes a class vs mercedes b class

Some choose their cars based on street cred and performance, others on function and comfort. I chose the B because it met our needs and was the best car at a very good price. 8 years on, I'd make the same choice again. Boring, I know, but thinking about use cases and requirements (both...

    B200D jumps idle

When my W246 was new, the gear changes were a bit harsh, but a software update sorted that out. I've not had the engine kick or jump on tick-over, but when I start the engine from cold and the outside temperature is freezing, the gearbox fluid is a bit thick and putting it into D makes the car...

Advice on buying a B Class

You need to check the fluid level when the trans fluid is either at 40 or 70, + or - 2 degrees C. Sorry, in senior moment I wrongly said Star when I should have said Xentry. I guess other tools are capable of reading the trans temp output, but I don't know which ones.

Advice on buying a B Class

Had ours almost 8 years now from new and we still love it. Nothing has broken or gone wrong and we regularly get mid-60s mpg on a long run. Try and find one without the Ad-Blue system - just one less thing to worry about. The only servicing that requires an indi is the DCT gearbox because it...

Oil in coolant and coming from back of engine?

Find a specialist that has a fluid exchange machine. If the gearbox has any chance of being recovered, you need one of these. They are connected in series with the cooler pipes to the radiator and, after an initial fluid and filter change and with the engine running, the contaminated fluid is...

Gas and Electric Direct Debits Wow Big Jump

Just to add to the knowledge base here, my annual gas consumption is much in line with the average for our type/size of house at about 11,000KWh (electric is about 2,000KWh), but our daily gas consumption this week has been about 80KWh per day, or about £8.24. And that's to heat our 3-bed...

Is it still worth going to university?

I didn’t go to uni, but back in the late 60’s, only a very few in my school did. Instead, I joined the military and did an apprenticeship. 10 years years on and an ONC/HNC at the local tech college on day release gave me the qualifications to apply for a commission as an engineer officer. This...
