I've just traced a maddening noise on my E320 cdi to a de-laminated crank pulley. The outer ring which serves as a vibration damper has come away and was merrily eating its way through the front timing case. I've just pulled the ring off, but my question is how necessary is it? If I re-assemble...

Found it. The parking brake need to be removed to get to it. Sensor changed and air con working again :bannana:

Does anyone the exact location (and how to get to it to change it) for the Evaporator Temperature Sensor part no. A2208300772 on a W211 E320 cdi please? I really don't want to rip any more of the car apart looking unless I know I'm going in the right direction!

I've seen it stated that it needs to be EXACTLY 80C to accurately dip the box, but tbh I can't see any reason why normal operating temperature after driving for a number of miles (like with every other car) wouldn't be correct.

Somewhat baffling that Mercedes felt it would never need doing, clearly not the case. It's not difficult or expensive to do yourself, (although the £100 kit I bought only came with 5 litre of oil and I got 6 out). I would think every 40k would be good peace of mind. I think it's nice to have...

Well I've now changed the radiator, ATF and filter, thermostat, no 5 glow plug and re-seated the blowing injector (all the problems I was aware of on the engine/transmission side of things). Took it for a short test drive and everything seems great. I'll know more after a bit more use but...

Yes. The filter is surprisingly clear, nothing of any consequence that I can see. I've no way of knowing how long ago, if ever, the oil and filter have been changed. The filter has a MB part number on it so could be original, or of course could have been replaced with a genuine part at some...

Well the 722.6 service kit from PFS Parts arrived, and although I thought it came with genuine Mercedes oil, it actually comes with this: Dexron 3? Should they not be supplying this?

Thanks for the info everyone, I went for the genuine Mercedes oil in the end but good to know the other options. Would anyone know if any of those oils is anything other than red? I'd say mine has a greenish tinge to it: Which of course is the same colour as the coolant....: You...

Thanks Bob, I found PFS Parts selling a complete kit with filter, gasket, sensor and genuine Merc oil for £100 so I went with that as I didn't think it was too bad. Now to see if I get away with it or if the damage has been done.....

So, I've just ordered the Euro Car Parts EIS radiator. I'm about to order the ATF filter and gasket, but wondering what the thoughts are on ATF type. Should just the genuine Mercedes ATF be used? Or are cheaper generic types OK? Given that I feel fairly sure that it'll all need to come out...

Seals, bolts and re-seat tool are on the way. From what I've read, if it's showing the symptoms of glycol contamination, it'll definitely need a new torque converter? Or maybe not?

Thanks, I agree with your thoughts on the rad. Mine is definitely Valeo (label on top) and although it looks most like the photo of the later non-problematic one I have no idea how old it is so could still be an issue going forward so changing it would be wise. I see Euro Car Parts are offering...
