1982 W123 240d 4 Speed manual and all the parts for an OM605 5 speed manual swap #superturbo

I've had zero interest in this so have decided to keep it, ship it to the US, and continue with this crazy project here!

1982 W123 240d 4 Speed manual and all the parts for an OM605 5 speed manual swap #superturbo

Update: price to ship the car has gone up substantially, so lowering the price for the car and willing to separate out from other items. £3500 for the car OBO. I have about £5k into it.

1982 W123 240d 4 Speed manual and all the parts for an OM605 5 speed manual swap #superturbo

I have documented my project here. My family is moving to the US and I'm having second thoughts about shipping everything. If I can get enough for the car, engine and huge mass of parts, I will sell it all and start over (again!) in the US. I'd prefer for it all to go together. Prices for...

    W123 - 300TD Fuel heater?

I'm not sure if the extra heaters are 'on', leading to the raised temps you're experiencing? Certainly if you lived in colder climes, they'd come in handy. But if you want a tidier engine bay and someone else will be working on the car, those could get in the way and cause potential annoyance.

    Where do you buy parts?

ECP = Eurocarparts? GSF = ? Thanks for those other leads! I have found Autodoc to not be user friendly, and not to have parts for my older cars. YMMV.

    Long time old Benz fanboy

Hello from Indianapolis and Glasgow! Just depends where I am at any given moment. I started off with a 1982 300d about 10 years ago and have since then had several 123s, a 124, an S202, and 2 126s. I love these forums (usually) as some of the best character traits of humanity makes itself...

Do you own more than 1 Merc?

I try to keep several at once, but none of them are as nice as all the other ones on here! Mine are usually found under trees, shading puddles of oil in driveways, or have been sitting 15 years after the original owners died! I love the challenge of getting them up and running.

What Have You Done To Your Merc Today?

    Washed the 240 today.

How much rust is too much?

I have owned several older Mercs (123, 124, 126) and all have suffered with the typical rot. My current 123 is pretty bad. I'm taking it to the US where in my home state there are no safety checks, so you can literally drive just about anything on the road, even if it's rusted out and broken and...

    OM616 popularity in the UK/Europe?

Hello from Glasgow Of all the W123s, the 240d seems the most popular...at least in the US where I'm from. My first W123 was a 300d with the turbo 617. That was my favourite. Just the right amount of power for a heavy/old car. I now drive a W123 240d and find it anemic, nearly dangerous, on...

    Where do you buy parts?

As a transplant in Scotland from the US, I have found it more difficult to find parts for my Mercedes cars than in the US. I'm wondering where other folks source their parts? I have used various online vendors in the UK, and some from the EU, but none of them seem to knock my socks off or be...

    W123 - 300TD Fuel heater?

Looks like a previous owner was running veg, perhaps. Those heater leads are indicative of WVO or SVO or some alternative fuel usage, to keep temps high.

W123 - Running hotter side of warm

Any chance you have an air bubble in there? I've experienced similar issues in OM617 powered cars and it was usually air, rather than any expensive repair. YMMV. Good luck!

    Recommendations for All Season tyres

I've had a lot of luck with Pirelli 4 season tires, but not sure if the same ones are still on the market. I also give a thumbs up for the Cross Climates.
