Thanks for that Andy, my car is a pre-facelift one and the units fitted are Bosch, possibly because the car was originally supplied Duty Free to a bloke in the Army in Germany. Anyway I have bitten the bullet and ordered Bosch replacements to be sure they will fit. Thanks again. ;)

Thanks Dieselman & talbir, it is definately the window module, started the car this morning, raised the tickover to 2,000rpm and just waited. After a few seconds the NS rear window opened of its own accord, jerky to start with then opened fully and, as before, I had to switch ignition off and on...

Does that mean the brake pedal switch/relay and the window module/relay are connected in some way? Just checked and with the ignition on, and without starting car, the central switch for the NS rear window is now working. Started the car reversed out of the garage, braked and the fault...

It also does it sometimes when I start the car so could be a "spike" but the central switch for that window stopped working when the problem started hence my theory it could be a bad earth. Ta anyway I'll check the earths in the footwells and see if that helps. Grant

I have started to get some minor electrical problems mainly with the NS rear window which opens occasionally when touching the foot brake or when starting car. After this happens neither the NS rear door switch nor the central switch (between fronts seats) will operate the window to close it...

Not sure if you get it in Aussie but try "Fairy Power Spray", the stuff that is advertised to clean burnt on grease on roasting tins etc. It is the best I have found and lifts grease, burnt on or not, as others have said use a gentle spray of water after just to wash off the muck. Okay here's what I have found out: Disconnected the battery and went to pull off the (2) relays, they didn't come off, tried harder and a small plastic cover to the right of the relays fell off revealing what is below. You can just make out "RYDER Towing Equipment Ltd" on the printed circuit...

Had another look and according to Haynes the comfort control module and relays are next to the battery, I can't be sure as there are a bunch of fuses and the fuel relay there. I did try switching the climate control off and on but in this heat, 30C (sorry if it is raining in UK!!) it is sweat...

Dragon, unfortunately my Haynes manual for 1993 to 2000 models (under Relays, page 12.3 drawing 3.7) only talks about "early models" where the fuel pump relay is situated next to the battery. It could be the fuel pump relay but this one (two actually) are located on the LHS of the rear bulkhead...
