I'm rather reluctantly putting my 230CE up for sale. Engine: 4 cylinder 2.3L (136 BHP) Mileage: 178.5K Colour: Smoke Silver Interior: Black leather interior retrofitted from donor car (replaced worn interior cloth) Bodywork and engine in great condition given the age of the car. There are...

    Coolant Loss

New pump and tensioner I just wanted to say thanks to all of you for your advice . . as always it was spot on. I took the car to MB Motors (formally George Frasers) in Alperton and had a new pump fitted. The belt tensioner was also knackered, so I had that changed too. As always MB Motors...

    Coolant Loss

Thanks! Thanks Grober, thats certainly something to keep in mind. I was experiencing a slight loss of coolant prior to the belt change, but potentially as you mention the over tenstioning the belt could have taken the pump over the edge. Many thanks to you all for your help and advice!

    Coolant Loss

Thanks for the advice! I guess I'll be off to the stealership to get myself a new water pump . . unless of course anyone has good experience with a third party (ECP or GSF?) pump. Only changed the fan belt about a month ago . . since the last one ended up splitting down the middle and I had a...

    Coolant Loss

Many thanks Ian. Not what I wanted to hear  but at least I know what the problem is. Is a replacement pump the only solution, or is the gland something that can be replaced?

    Coolant Loss

Anybody? Can anyone identify the culprit pipe I described?

    Coolant Loss

I've had a good hunt around the forum to see if I could find a solution, but to no avail. I have a W124 230CE (M102 engine). I've been experiencing a consistent loss of coolant for a few weeks. The symtoms are a gradual coolant loss from a black pipe (overflow? pressure release?) located...

    Is this true?

I also purchased an exhaust from MIJ about 3 years ago. Job seemed ok, even though the exhaust was quite loud in comparison to what I had requested. I was told it would settle down and get quieter over time. After the completed the work I went home. I started hearing a knocking noise, checked...

    W124 Lamda Sensor

kth286. Thanks I considered doing just that. However, the pipe that does contain the hole also has the CAT on it. The cost of that pipe alone is more than I paid for the entire exhaust system and fittings. So by the looks of it, I'll drill the hole and get a bolt welded on. Or go get myself a...

    W124 Lamda Sensor

Thanks for the PM Graeme. Unfortunately Graeme has PM'ed me to let me know that he hasn't been able to dig up anything concrete based on my engine number. Does anyone else have a solution to avoid using the lambda sensor and potentially getting a better fuel economy out of the car? Any...

    W124 Lamda Sensor

Part of the reason I want to change the exhaust is that some years ago the original CAT on the car failed. This was my first car . . and I decided I was going to fit a custom made exhaust to the car. Nice straight through free flowing system. Wow the car sounded great, real grunt and seemed to...

    W124 Lamda Sensor

I like the idea of recoding the ECU by hardwiring it. If anybody is able to give any info on how to do this it would be greatly appreciated. Otherwise I'll go down the route of drilling the hole and finding someone that is able to weld the bolt on for me to enable me to attach the sensor...

    W124 Lamda Sensor

Hi, I have a 1991 W124 Coupe 230CE. I have purchased and aftermarket exhaust (no CAT). Currently my downpipe has a lamda sensor attached. The new downpipe doesn't have a hole/thread where I can attach the sensor. What would be the result of running the car without the sensor connected? I'm...
