I haven't checked the price of a new head yet, as it will probably scare me. I have 170k miles on the car.
I was driving along when I noticed the temp go up past 80 and then it started to go higher so i pulled over and stopped.
there was no obvious symptoms, until the car overheated, whereupon I immediately switched the car off and had it collected and delivered to a garage friend. He found a trace of oil in the water and so removed the heads to find that the gasket had leaked and the oil had mixed. He sent the 2 heads...
My CLK55 has a little surface rust on the front wings. With the price of the wings I dont know if it is worth fixing. My 55 has 177k miles on the clock, but I still love having fun with the tail out
Local Tyre garage suggested blowing out the broken pieces, so I decided to give the car a good old charge and it seems to have blown the rattle away quite literally.
I have the same thing with my 2001 CLK55, and my local tyre garage advised it is the cat converter breaking down. I just gave the car a blast over the past few days and it seems to have blown the loose stuff out the back. Problem is I now need back tyres......
