    W210 electrical faults

Fixed the alarm and immobiliser fault by replacing the batteries in the key fobs and disconnecting the car battery for 30 seconds. One down and lots to go.

    W210 electrical faults

My 1996 W210 E300D non turbo with 268,000mls has started to give intermittant electrical problems. ABS and ESR lights randomly come on, the radio crackles when brake lamps are on, outside temp sensor has got lower and lower, now reads -38C constantly. The alarm and immobiliser have a mind of...

E300D Will not go over 3000RPM

Thanks for the suggestions guys, I have been running successfully on filtered veg oil since July last year and had no probs. I have replaced the fuel filters in the engine bay but not the tank filter. Does the tank need to be drained to do this? Thanks Karl

E300D Will not go over 3000RPM

My E300d W210 1996 non turbo with no MAF has recently become reluctant to rev above 3000rpm. Performance up to 3000rpm seems to be normal, I also noticed slight flaring on the lower gear changes. Any suggestions?

    Biodiesel

230K Do you have any starting issues in the cold weather on 50/50 mix? I have been running on WVO mixed with 5% unleaded petrol and only recently needed some dinodiesel to help with cold starts on my E300D non turbo W210. I did have some diesel knock due to a coked injector but its a little...

Acetone in Fuel to increase MPG?

I've been using acetone for about 3 years at 660:1 ratio with diesel in my E300D multi valve 606-912 engine with no turbo. I get 4 MPG more and a little more oomph, it's very noticable on this docile engine. I Recently converted to running on filtered used vegetable oil with a 5% unleaded...

Wow, no more duty on biodiesel commencing 30th June !!!

I have also used the 20litre of SVO to 1 litre of unleaded petrol mix and it works a treat. You can get pure corn oil from Lidl for 50p a litre. Seems to give better performance than rapeseed or soya oil. Worth a try? Karl

Wow, no more duty on biodiesel commencing 30th June !!!

There's no need to register or pay any duty on the vegetable oil from 1st July 2007. HMRC will expect you to keep accurate records for 6 years of the fuel you have used/produced. I have recently converted my E300D to run on WVO. I added a VOW2+ electric and water fuel heater and an additioinal...

    Possible air leak

Not sure about the TE but on the 124 saloon its under the back seat. I have a similar problem with the central locking, I put it down to the car being idle for a year. Hopefully it will improve with use? Good Luck Karl

W124 Lack of performance and noisey with it

Check that the vacuum advance on the distributer is working by attaching a pipe to the vacuum unit and sucking the pipe with your mouth. You should notice a restriction if not the diaphragm is holed and you will have not enough advance when pulling away or when under load. Had this on my 1990...

Is this a carrot test fail?

If it's the two pin switch you can test it by disconnecting the wiring plug from the switch and linking the connectors with a piece of wire. With the engine running you should hear a click and the fan clutch should engage causing the fan to draw air through the radiator. PS make sure you...

    Suitable petrol octane rating

There was no cat on the 1990 230 8 valve engines. Uk unleaded is 95 octane anyway so no probs either way. If you want a bit more go, use Tesco 99 unleaded but to make the very best use of it you will need to advance the static ignition timing a few degrees. IE. turn the ditributor in the...

    Here again

Sounds like an intake air leak. Check the small "U" shaped rubber hose which is underneath the inlet manifold. It connects the throttle body to the plenum. It can split or come off the pipes if you had a backfire. Good luck Karl

    Oil smells of petrol?

Surely 20,000 miles between oil changes is far too long, even if using synthetic oil. Maybe better to use a mineral oil and change it at 5000 mile intervals? Even at 5000 miles the oil will be dirty.
