CLK W209 Do not touch the rol bar bushes!!!

Guess I must have been lucky. Recently replaced my front and rear ARB bushes on my 14 yr old W209 without any of the issues mentioned. What a difference it made, no clunking or squeeking whatsoever now. Might be an idea when doing this job to give the bolts a good spray with penetrating fluid...

    Trunion bushes

Doing a bit of searching this evening and found this which might explain things a little further:- http://www.mbclub.co.uk/forums/wheels-tyres-brakes-suspension/128354-squeeky-suspension-2.html

    Trunion bushes

Yes, it could be a term thats been handed down from the old school mechanics. I was just hoping to identify the bush they were referring to on my car so I could take a look to see what condition they were in.

    Trunion bushes

I've heard a few references to rear suspension 'Trunion' bushes recently and was wondering exactly which. Looking at the EPC for my CLK does not make reference to such items so I'm guessing it's a general term given. In respect to my car, I reckon they are referring to the bushes associated...

Nice one Coruscator, glad you got the parts and got everything back together. You don't necessarily need to go to MB for the SRS light. A decent scanner should do the job. I use one of these:- Foxwell NT630. There will be others on the market that do a similar job. I think mine was...

No worries, glad to have been some use. The part number I gave is for the kit that these two cogs come in. you also get a whole heap of other parts for other stepper motors so its worth looking at them while you have it all apart. I hunted high and low to try and get the parts separately but...

Main dealer I'm afraid. Going to be just short of £40 for the kit. I think the part number is A2038300032 but check with the dealer.

Im not surprised your hands are sore, that motor is in a really awkward position. You did well getting it out without dropping the blower housing. If you open the bonnet and remove the cabin air filter you should then see the blower motor and housing. Its attached to the bulkhead with 4 nuts...

My broken cogs:- sorry, my earlier photo might have been a little confusing as I was using a similar cog to assist with alignment investigation whilst I was waiting for my new ones to be delivered. You definately have a snapped shaft. It was the lug that snapped off mine which is the bit...

Yes looks like the shaft has snapped. You should be able to fish it out with something or try and stick something onto it then pull it out.

Yes it just pulls up and out. You can only fit it in one position so no worries about it not being in the correct position. I took that photo when I was investigating possible alignment issues.

Here's a close up of how what should be below the motor:- When you are putting it back together, make sure the charcoal filter flap moves freely and isnt sticking. refit the stepper screws and tighten carefully a little at a time keeping the motor in position so it doesn't get distorted...

The manuals say you have to remove the heater box which is a nightmare. I managed to get to the offending stepper motor by unbolting the blower motor housing from the engine bay. Remove the cabin air filter and you will see 4 nuts to remove. Go back to the passenger seat and unbolt the big...

Done this job twice now. The fact that you don't get the noise when you select the active carbon filter button would suggest to me that your a32m2 stepper motor - or rather the linkage cogs have gone. See my recent post below...
