Plus you can only machine so much off a wheel each time before they loose definition, or become dangerously thin in areas.

I agree, lacquered, diamond cut finishes aren't robust as there is just one protective coat between bare aluminium and the environment. I have considered a 100% painted finish although it detracts from the look of the 17" wheels. That would mean refurbing all 4, so maybe something to consider...

Being new to the forum, I’m certainly no expert, but I recently queried the gear box service on mine (W204 with 7g+) with a local Indy. They looked up the car and said it’s definitely 75000 miles or 5 years, whichever comes sooner. This appears to tally with the service schedule in the book pack.
