    Coolant temperature going down

The coolant itself won't have an impact. I suspect they are both predominantly the same fluid mix (95% or more), with only some additive differences. Red is the new blue from Merc. They don't sell blue anymore.

    Coolant temperature going down

My personal view (including the OM642 diesel) is that the thermostat maintains a steady 88-89°C once up to temperature. If it is not doing this (for the OM642) it is most likely a thermostat fault. For this particular engine: (i) breakdown of a rubber gasket seal within the thermostat can get...

IC hose sucking flat. New Turbo, Stumped!

Although I've never heard of this, a quick Google suggests it's not uncommon when a turbo isn't spooling up or providing enough pressure, and therefore the engine vacuum is sucking the intercooler hoses flat because the turbo isn't delivering enough air. You've tried another (know good new...

IC hose sucking flat. New Turbo, Stumped!

With this disconnected, or partially disconnected, are you noticing charge pressure coming from the turbo (disconnected intercooler pipe) when the engine is being revved?

IC hose sucking flat. New Turbo, Stumped!

Sorry, it was late and I was struggling with comprehension. Having had some sleep and a cup of tea, these pipes lower around the engine should all be under pressure. Only the loose fitting rigid plastic ducting to the air filter and into the batwing and then turbo are under slight vacuum...

IC hose sucking flat. New Turbo, Stumped!

Just to check (I'm possibly slightly unfamiliar as I have the 2011 OM642 in the E class) is this the rubber intercooler pipe that exits the intercooler, goes up to the resonator, then into the silver aluminium charge pipe and into the turbo to feed air to the engine? If pipes on the charge side...

Recall for rear subframe Mercedes Benz E class

@Mi6ka Was this a private sale or from a trader? If buying or selling privately, I would recommend as either the buyer or the seller, always getting an MOT done someone trustworthy very soon before sale, because there are legal implications (and for traders) of selling a car not in a...

W222 AC not blowing cold air.

So, 4 weeks into S Class ownership.. | General Discussion Seems to be a regular issue. I personally would be handing back to the trader for a refund. If it's a private sale, be prepared to open wallet very wide.

Looking for a little bit of help

Wow, that is a lot of water/oil emulsion. Is this a new purchase or have you had the car a while? Just asking, as if less than 6 months, supplying trader should sort it.

R231 SL Possible mileage clocking - Checks?

I possibly recall mileage might also be recorded in the gearbox ECU. A good independent with STAR might be willing to have a look round for mileage verification data trails.

    255, 35, R18 ***QUIET*** tyres recommendation ?

My opinion not backed up by anything other than my limited experience (e.g. running all season vs summers vs winter) is that in the cabin, tread patterns like the Goodyear Eagle F1, Conti whichever contact, Dunlop Sport Maxx i.e. those with significant circumferential 'bands' or rings of...

Free used 4x Eneloop Pro Rechargeable AA Batteries

I have 4x eneloop pro rechargeable AA batteries that I can no longer get to hold charge. They are about 4 years old and have, I could guess, been through about 100-200 cycles each. I used them one pair at a time, so I imagine condition is similar across all 4. Both pairs stopped working within a...

    New car

I would be a little more cautious about the rust. Major areas are around the wheel arches, subframe where suspension arms connect, suspension arms, and not practical for viewing, but behind the front wheel arch liners in my experience.

    Motorway

Agree with this. Just to note though that engine reaching normal operating temperature is 100% not the same as coolant (and water temp guage on dash) being up to full 88⁰C). I've had regens relatively soon after start when water was at, say, 60⁰C. But no way would it start a regen within the...
