    CL500 queery

Mine (2004, 7 spd) has a 6 disc changer in the boot and also a separate DVD/CD player for the Nav system. The CD player in the CMD unit I use for music CDs. I'm not sure if that is standard fit, but if you look in the boot on the LHS that's where the 2 players are.

4 wheels tracking £££ at mercedes.

Just to add my tuppence worth. I had the alignment done (all 4) at a well recommended establishment. But 6 months later I was buying 2 new fronts for £150 each. Why? Because they did the job without the engine running, and the CL needs the fancy suspension up and running before you can...

W164 Comand does not recognise DVD map when cold

I had this problem yesterday, and was about to post when I found this thread. The command fired up but the map just showed "... waiting..." and the animated clock symbol. I've had problems with the unit not reading the DVD, but the error message is quite explicit - "cannot read DVD" After...

    Bent tie-rods

It difficult to say whether it was towing, jacking or whatever. But they've both been replaced now, so it feels a bit safer. In fact it feels as safe as it did before I knew they were bent ;)

    Bent tie-rods

Thanks for the quick reply It's item 10 that are bent. I dread to think what else would be damaged if the track rod ends (item 15) were bent further - they are castings, so unlikely to bend.

    Bent tie-rods

While my W215 (CL500) was having its tracking done it was pointed out that both tie-rods were bent. I was surprised, so was the chap doing the work. Any clues as to how something so substantial got bent? For clarity the tie-rod is connected to the steering rack at one end and to the...

    CL500 - Purchasing help please

I've got an '04 CL500 and I would recomend he gets a facelift model which, I think, came out in early 04. It has the 7 spd gearbox, different tail lights and a re-designed command screen (much bigger) and controls. This example on Pistonheads looks a much better bargain - says me crying in...

Do these wheels/tyres fit?? Read this first! Offset/fitment answers within..

I've been offered a set of 235/55/17 from an S class for my W215 which has 225/55/17 on it. I've had a look at the list, but I can't find this size combination; there are wider ones, taller ones, slimmer ones... but none are 235. Will they fit? TIA, Nick

Thanks for that. The article confirms what my intuition told me - don't do it! Cheers, Nick

    Start-Stop driving in traffic

Often when I'm sitting a jam I turn the engine off. Then, as the queue starts moving I re-start the engine and continue. I'm lucky having keyless-go, so its not a great effort. But I did wonder what the down side might be in terms of the service interval. Would this style of driving get me...

    I've bought a CL 500 !

From bitter experience it will take a bit longer than "a couple of hours" ;) I'm still finding things out a year on. :D Which is testament to its huge complexity. Cheers, Nick

    I've bought a CL 500 !

When I bought my 04 CL form a main dealer they replaced the wheel nuts because they were rusty - apparently it due to some brands of alloy wheel cleaner. Strange that, you buy a wheel cleaner which sparkles your wheels and rust your nuts  You'll enjoy the car. I have had mine for...

CLS tyre wear and vibration problems

I've been having a very similar problem on my 2004 CL 500. At first I thought it was a wheel bearing in the early stages of failure, but eventually it was diagnosed as "feathering" of one of the front tyres which had left a threepenny bit wear pattern on the edge of the tyre. I had the tyre...

    Extended warranties

I've just contacted Mercedes-Benz Approved Used Warranty and they have quoted me £1459 for my 2004 CL500. I was so stunned by the price I forgot to ask any details - plus the guy didn't seem that keen on selling it - I presume it was for Tier 1, since that's the one I have now and am still below...
