Funny you should say that about keeping the noise in, because it was a lot quieter inside the car when the sump panel was removed and I`m sure mpg went up by about 2 mpg on my commuter run.

OK thanks, I did look up the gasket, but it looks like the inlet manifold may have to come off to get good access as it appears to be just too complicated to just blindly fit.:doh:

Is there anyone out there that has done the gasket between oil filter housing and the oil cooler/heat exchanger on a e320 cdi? Or will I be the first to undertake this job?

Is the water pump impellor plastic on my 2000 e320 cdi, you have me concerned now because it failed at 100,000 miles on the 325 BMW I had, and I mean really failed as there was hardly any impellor left and I dont know where all the bits went!!:eek:

Another update, checked when I got home this morning and there was no oil dripping down to the sump area, however it does appear the rag I stuffed into the oil cooler area has soaked up any oil that has leaked. So I now have to plan in a gasket change, grateful for any advice or hasn`t anybody...

Yes the battery will drain, and unless you are built like Mr Universe I would say you will have great differculty driving without the Power steering.
