Thanks. I've also discovered that the "diode" under the fuse box is MB part number A2015401181, it is a plastic connector containing the said diode. However, this part is no longer available from Mercedes - they recommend repair or "source elsewhere" (scrap car). It contains a diode "1N3001"...

My 1984 190e has an annoying problem, all of my windows stopped working yesterday. Fuses seem fine so a bit of research suggests I should change the "silver" relay that controls power to the windows. I've had an '84 190E for the last 4 years, 40kmiles, 1 previous owner, looks and drives like it left the showroom yesterday. Electric everything, driven daily and has never let me down. Can't see any reason to change it.

Anyone have any experience of preheaters in a W124? I ask because they claim to offer improved fuel consumption on short journeys, 90% of the journeys my '91 230TE undertakes are of 4 miles or so (2 miles each way with a 20 minute stop in the middle), in fairly light suburban traffic but over...

So, tank was still in good shape and had the short breather hose and those going to the charcoal filter all checked, blown through, and all are clear now. Not sure if they were blocked or not and won't know if the problem is solved until the weekend. The mechanic said he thought the filler neck...

PITA since I got it alright, no idea why the tank was replaced to start with but I'll check the vent hose today and see if I can blow down it. The car if off for a service today so I'll get them to check if the tank has collapsed or not, hopefully its OK ;-)

Thanks, but no amount of moving the pump nozzle makes much difference. I'm not sure I understand the relevance of the priming pump to the problem with tank filling, am I missing something? However, the breather pipe being blocked makes perfect sense, any pointers on how to check this or...

My 1991 W124 estate has an annoying problem, I have to fill it with petrol REALLY slowly or the fuel bubbles up and makes the petrol pump cut out. I can only fill at a rate of about 1 litre every 10 seconds, so a 50l fill takes about 8 minutes. BTW, the car came with an invoice for a new fuel...

The wheels on my '91 230TE W124 have a few kerb marks and scratches that could do with a bit of attention to spruce them up, a full refurb isn't an option at the moment. Is there a Halfords touchup or spray paint that a good match? Alternatively, does anyone know the paint code for them so I can...

Turns out the thermostat housing cover, which was still the old plastic type, was weeping a little, but only noticeable when the system was under pressure. Replaced with the newer metal type and seems fine so hopefully that's the only action needed.
