Thanks guys I will have a look see the rotor arm and cap changed 6 months ago along with plugs and leads worked fine since about 3000 miles , Thanks for nice comments on car I love it ( but more when working lol)
I will let you know how it goes
I did have a friend suggest dizzy might need...
Im sorry but I too think it is extremely petty to take off car tax as its just hassle to replace straight away and a real plus for getting more for your older car!
I once travelled 300 miles to buy a used Porsche 911 for £36000 left a deposit and the seller phoned me the next day to say he...
I might be really dumb here but is there any sort of drive shaft going to engine from distributor that could be worn and slipping when hot , or is that just old school points ignition systems??
I did take the ruber cover off 6 months ago? and I did not have this problem before I changed...
spark off HT lead but none at the plug?
as i said i recently replaced new rotor arm and distributor cap? could it be electronic ignition unit ? left for a day starts /revs pertectly but after running for a min just dies again no spark?
any body got a clue?
My 300SL has just been recovered, after dying on me the car runs fine for about a mile then engine dies you leave it a while then it runs for a min then goes again , when it does go there is no spark from plug but there is from the coil on the HT lead .
Which I would think would be the rotor...
not bad looking for £3k did you get your money back? still think a brown lhd 280 was a bit steep just look around at current prices there are a lot of people asking high money but just not selling there is a black 280sl around for £10k on 18" alloys will probably be around forever at that price...
Come on who would pay nearly £8k for a LHD 280sl hmm a lot cheaper ones out there and as for a profit if you include man hours time to collect registering hassles? what profit lol
but fair play car looked a lot better after they finished it!
I thought I stood a chance till I saw all those vacuum diagrams ,
hmm I think I will remove airfilter housing to see if vacuum pipe has come away try the filters in the bagged up section near bulkhead and if that fails may have to take car to someone for help
Hi levers on dash have no effect on vacuum levers if engine on or off ,I checked headlight adjustment nothing happens and checked vacuum pipes still attached to levers on back of dash but there seems no pressure ,
I tied vacuum lever down to stop hot air which worked in stopping hot air ,
Thanks for help guys I started a seperate thread in engine section and had some good suggestions, tried those unfortunately no joy yet but any offers of help gratefully recieved before my car cooks me to death lol
Hi thanks for suggestions I have stripped front facia side console panels the nut on levers has not become loose ,I checked the .The vacuum operated valve does hold position indicating membrane is fine the next step you suggested was the reservoir of the non return valve?
Thanks for that , I did find another forum suggesting from a couple of people that there if the strip the panels under dash there is a gold retaining screw on the heat distribution flap that works its way loose and just lets hot air through constantly I will try that this week
