Thanks for the replys, Some very helpful information there. I guss if there looked after then I should be ok , but would it be wise to replace the timing chain if I buy one. What would be the expected cost of replacing the chain, can the engine be left in the car or is it an engine out job.

The 220 cdi has only one tail pipe, all other engine options came with twin exhaust silencers. The will be space behind the bumper to fit the extra silencer and the locating bolts for the brackets will also be there. It should be fairly straight forward to fit the silencer.

I reckon the simplest upgrade would be Comand APS, Check E bay there's some units on there from Germany for around 300 pounds

Good to hear you got the car sorted, There was a mod for stopping the oil passing through the loom, its a small plug in extension thingy that connects between the magnet and loom. If you check Auto Data it will list all fuses and locations

Check the wiring loom for oil, there was an issue with oil getting pushed up to loom from the cam magnet and causing random fault codes. Unplug the Engine control unit to check if there is any oil in the plug housing

Yea it will work but I think the old COMAND 2 units needed a separate CD drive for the maps ? and It connected via the D2B network I wouldn't bother with the old nav system and instead buy a nice after market double did unit
