Well I just checked all that. The car is a 1999 UK spec car and has a GTW of 3650 kgs on the VIN plate with a max towing weight of 1500 kgs (braked) excluding nose weight.

Have just been reading through the owners manual of my 1999 320 SL and there is a section specifically for towbars, fitting and operation. The EPC shows all the parts for a detachable towbar for a 1999 car so Im just wondering where you get this 'illegal' stuff from?

Brilliant thanks. I have a 6 speed manual from a W210 compressor which I believe might do the trick. I also have a 5 speed from a W124 E220. Just need a flywheel and clutch assy and a pump!

How does that sit with emissions and does it affect the characteristics of the engine?
