    W212 Rear subframe

Update on my wait situation. Spoke to MB just before Xmas and still expected in March. I was very polite and said I would check back - reminded I have only had them service it. They called back 2 days ago to say it will be in early January. 👍. Only quandary now is what to ask them to...

    W212 Rear subframe

My W212 (61 plate 115k miles full MB service history) passed it's MOT in September. Put it in for service last week and they informed me of sub-frame rust. Declared it a safety issue and said my insurance is invalidated if I drive it. They will replace FoC, but not till end of March - even...

C350 cdi Brabus D6s performance upgrade

Good luck with it. I have to say that 3 years after fitting mine, and 45k miles, I am very happy and no regrets. Would do again.

    Garden Mower

Any mower that does not have a Honda engine! Seriously, I have three devices (mower, chipper, scythe) all with Honda engines and they all give grief with carb jets. By contrast, I never had any problems with Briggs or Kawasaki engines. My preference is Briggs - they just work forever.

    Cat 6 or Cat 6E?

5E. As others point out, CAT 6 has a piece of plastic spacing down the middle of the cable to keep the wires adequately spaced, but it makes the cable much bigger. I'm running gigabit over CAT 5 even (which surprised me). For most installs, shielded 5E is probably a better option than 6...

Aviva renewal up 20% - multi-car con. Exercise caution.

So we have 4 cars (E class, SLK, Q5 and Fiesta) on multicar with Aviva. No claims (ever), no convictions (ever), no circumstance change, or car change, but the renewal quote was up 20% over last year. They flat refuse to do a price match or change their quote any way - just told me to shop...

    Media server / NAS

You can get a lot on 2tb, but consider also that this needs to be backed up somewhere. Your TV might be DLNA compliant - that gives you access to the NAS from the TV, but note that the decoding devices on TV's are often incompatible with the encoded videos ( usually Audio related ). e.g. a new...

    Media server / NAS

A Blu-Ray disk consumes a lot of disk space (can probably compress down to 5gb) - and takes a while to grab / process. Also, a lot of software doesn't do such a great job so you get lip-synch issues occasionally. A NAS is great (I have all our movies/music/photos on one - 15tb), but you get...

    AV knowledge

Pretty sure there will be quite some knowledge on here, so start getting specific. :-) AVForums will probably have answers to anything you might be wanting to know already though..

    clk stuck in park

I get this sometimes on the old SLK 170. It's not battery (new), but I think the interlock is sticky, Pressing and releasing the brake pedal a few times clears it (if you put your hand on the lever you can feel the interlock disengage). But to save extreme embarrassment, I now keep a long...

Power pick-up point and dash cam

I haven't bothered with the back even, but I was thinking of a 'google street-view' 360 camera for the roof just to be sure..:D My point is, if you are going to bother at all, you only get about 40% of the action from a front cam, so interesting but fairly ineffective, and to increase the...

Power pick-up point and dash cam

fwiw, having had a dash cam for a while, you will quickly find that you really need a rear-facing cam too, so if you see some kind of deal for 2, go for it.

    brabus ds6

Enjoy! You can get through tyres reasonably quickly now.. The calculated fuel is now for the most part incorrect, and especially if you are in 'S' or 'M' because the box overfuels so the OBC thinks it is feeding less fuel than is actually being delivered. in 'E' mode the box is delivering more...

    brabus ds6

I still have my D6S fitted to a 212, and am still very happy with it. In a C it will be a lot of fun. Make sure it is latest firmware, then go enjoy.

How to improve the other half's driving...

Spot on. Ref the earlier post, maybe you just would prefer a greater margin, but until she actually kerbs it while she is driving, you don't have a leg to stand on (never mind walk home on). Consider also that the distance to the kerb (when viewed from the passenger seat) will appear different...
