Could be the syncros but an oil change on the box may solve your issue. If the oils never been changed that you know of then i would be inclined to try that first.

Problem now solved! Took for a long run as i was sure it was a blockage in the exhaust. Cat must have been partially blocked internally and the tapping has now gone. My theory is the cat blocked up and caused enough back pressure to bounce the exhaust valves back. Ill be talking to the exhaust...

Get the parts and do it yourself buddy. Took me hour and half or so today to do plugs air filter oil and filter plus fuel filter. Fuel filter took longest as it was the origional that was fitted at factory and had never been changed.

Just to add the car had an engine rebuild due to timing chain failure just before i bought it. Currently on 67k.

Was likely a faulty regulator on the alternator. You can get them and replace them. I had the same on a bmw a while ago. Glad you got it sorted now though.

Have you checked the fluid level? If not then do so as you may have a small leak.

First post so bear with me guys. Ive just bought a w203 c200k and would like to check the transmission fluid level but need the dipstick. Its a 56 plate so could do with knowing the gearbox code or a link to the correct dipstick. Thanks in advance.
