W639 low power, no obvious problem

Now solved. The MAF needed recalibration - despite there being nothing wrong with it. It sensed a calibration fault and went into limp mode. This particular fault can only be cleared with proprietary STAR software but was a 5 minute job once I found someone to do it.

W639 low power, no obvious problem

Detailed long winded post ahead, sorry! I'm usually good at solving my own problems but I'm getting to the end of my chain trying to figure out what's wrong with my vito. It's '07 w639 111 with OM646 engine. It wasn't a gradual failure, just suddenly decided to stop making boost, max speed now...

    W639 loss of power

Well problem solved and pics attached. RLS was correct, it was indeed the actuator. I couldn't find a replacement actuator so I removed mine and opened it up. There are 7 extremely thin wires which run from the connector to the circuit board and two of them had sheared from vibration or...

    W639 loss of power

Well I've not had any luck with EGR or MAF sensor. I've tested the turbo by removing the actuator arm and lockwiring the vnt arm in the full and off positions. Neither improve the cold performance. Hooked back up and still the same (no power when cold, no power once warmed up until the engine...

    W639 loss of power

Thanks for the reply. I moved the actuator by hand and it moves smoothly and can hear the gears operating. That doesn't confirm its ok because it could be the actuator motor but I would have thought that would be a permanent problem and not intermittent. In fact when it works it works well...

    W639 loss of power

Hello. I'm having an unusual issue with my 111 vito. Put simply, when I start it cold it has no power. Literally just makes 50mph at a push. But it drives perfectly. No warning lights, no stuttering just no power. As it warms up it doesn't improve. But if I park up for 5 minutes it...

    Activating cruise control

So I've installed cruise control hardware in my vito and need someone to activate it with star software. Im led to believe its pretty straightforward. So if any hobbiest with the necessary software wants to make a few £ let me know. Around Nottingham and after hours is best. Otherwise can...

    Calling STmarks

I've been lazy with this mainly because the gearbox in the van is not getting worse - and also because my bike is more fun to tinker with. But got back to work on the vito 'box and when I went to order parts I realised the spare one I have on the bench is from a 109 vito (gearbox 716.637) and...

    Calling STmarks

Got box pulled apart today (the spare one that is - not the one in my van). The little teeth that engage the 1st gear and are a part of the gear (I don't know the technical name) are badly worn which isn't surprising as the guy that sold it to me said it kept popping out of first. The plastic...

    Calling STmarks

Thanks for the tips. Should have guessed they'd hide a fastener behind the seal. I'm away for couple of weeks but will crack on with it after. Has anyone seen a single mass flywheel kit for w639? Theres loads out there for the w638

    Calling STmarks

Milage is 150k and i did change fluid to ATF. The old oil came out looking like quicksilver with a few large metal bits so I'm honestly surprised it still runs fairly well. For the other gearbox i brought i got the output flange off its spline and undid the ring of bolts round its...

    Calling STmarks

Apologies but I'm too new to use the private messages. I have a vito with what I think are moderately worn 1st and 2nd synchros and a reverse that occasionally pops out of gear. Not a bit deal for now. But I've picked up a used gearbox with a first gear fault so I can rebuild it at my leisure...

    Vito any good?

Source of the sloppy gear shift was a stripped thread on the bracket on the gearbox where one of the bushes attaches to that the linkage pivots (so the bolt was just wobbling about and not quite falling out. Drilled and helicoiled it and now shifting is sharp although 1st and 2nd synchros feel...

    Vito any good?

Thanks all for the advice. I looked at a few and brought an '07 compact 111. Has a few faults but the price was right. Im sure i can sort them myself but bit of advice is always good as they may be common. So firstly gearchange is clunky but feels more like cables/linkages than the box itself...

    Vito any good?

Yep built it myself. Used an mx5 as the main donor car for most the major components and turbo off a wrx.

    Vito any good?

Do have a gbs zero kit car which i will sometimes tow to trackdays although its road going as well. 225bhp with 620kg makes for lots of fun.

    Vito any good?

Stmarks - bike is bandit 1200 turbo project. Not decided if it will be road bike or pure track toy but either way it will be getting on track!

    Vito any good?

Regarding black death is it easy to see (pull plastic covers off engine without tools?) If im viewing one. Are the injectors accessable if they need to be pulled out or are some under the bulkhead

    Vito any good?

Ok thanks for the advice. Some strange terminology there so good to know what it means.
