Question: S211 Spacesaver wheel & bolts

Thank you for your prompt response - I assumed so, since I would be surprised if anything was missing from this car - it is immaculate. But before going to the lengths of removing a wheel and testing out the spacesaver (and the risk of damaging an alloy in the process), I thought I would ask...

Question: S211 Spacesaver wheel & bolts

I have a 2007 S211 E Class E320 cdi Sport Estate, with alloy wheels with mixed tyre sizes which are 245/40 R18 on front and 265/35 R 18 on rears, as are standard fpor this variant. I note that the spare wheel is a spacesaver R17 wheel (2194000002). The triangle, chock, toolkit and jack...

    95' W125 estate C pillar trim

There are clips within, which means you need to push the trim upwards very carefully to release. The top one is fragile. Leaks can also be internal - due to the rear wash hose splitting and water making its way above the headlining, but these usually become evident by water dripping from the...

    w124 250TD vs E220

I have a 1989 250TD manual, and a 1995 E300 auto -both 7 seater W124 estates, but the latter the face lift model. Both have done about 180,000 miles - I have had the 250TD for 13 years and the E300 for 6 years. Both are great cars;the 250TD is the better finished car with some cost cutting...

W124 Estate - Which tyres are best

I have 2 w124 estates - a 1995 E300D auto and a 1989 250TD manual. I twice fitted Michelin Pilot Primacy on the E300D for about £270, and got over 20,000 miles wear each time. The tyres were quiet and very hard wearing - I found them excellent. Unfortunately, they no longer make these for...

    People Carrier thingys

You might consider a Mazda Bongo Frendee. Daft name, but most are 2.5 turbo diesels automatics with between 5 and 8 seats, and camper conversions that vary from little more than a people carrier which converts to a bed, to a very well equipped camper with every convenience. They are easy to...

W124 - Where would rain water be leaking from?

I think that you will find another likely place is from around the rear compartment side windows - usually at the bottom. Feel under the rubber strip. Water from here can find its way into the rear wells and then into the front wells. The metal work under the strip may be bubbles and flakey...

W124 Estate -can I drive with to garage with failed self levelling down?

Self levelling hydraulic fluid pumping out from corroded pipe OK, I have jacked the car up, inserted axle stands, and got under to put the control lever into the middle (level) position. However, after dropping it down again, and starting the car, I am noticing hydraulic fluid dribbling out...

W124 Estate -can I drive with to garage with failed self levelling down?

My W124 estate has corroded rear suspension pipes (from spheres to struts) and a broken valve control rod on the self levelling suspension. I took it to the garage to have work assessed and parts ordered. On the way back, the offside pipe leaked hydraulic fluid. The car soon dropped onto its...

    W124 diesel estate fuel lines

Thanks all for your help. The crossover manifold came away OK in the end - it needed the coupling on the left hand side (when facing engine) prizing with a nylon hammer and screw driver, and similarly to push it back in on reassembly (a difficult job). I was able to fit a new hose #119 from...

    W124 diesel estate fuel lines

I have been replacing my fuel shut off valve and plastic fuel lines on a 1995/6 w124 300 diesel OM 606 engine. The fuel shut off valve has been leaking, and although fitting new o rings reduced the problem for a few weeks, the leak is still there. This causes difficult starting. I am...

    W124 Fuel Filter

Yes Rjgodbey, the illustration does show this fitting and it is what I have got. It is part 107 in: http://www.detali.ru/cat/oem_mb2.asp?TP=1&F=124191&M=606.910&GA=722.435&GM=717.433&CT=M&cat=19T&SID=07&SGR=120&SGN=04. John

    W124 Fuel Filter

Today I removed the shut off valve, and gave it a thorough clean, before replacing with a new fuel filter (topped up with diesel) and 2 new O rings. The upper (larger) O ring was dirty, and the piston in the valve looked contaminated too. I took the opportunity to remove the pre filter and clean...

    W124 Fuel Filter

Update: W124 fuel filter I checked the car again tonight. On examining the fuel filter, I noticed that (1) the hose to the prefilter had air in it, but that (2) there was no diesel fuel around the shut off valve (ie it was clean and dry). The car started first time, and once running, (1) all...

    W124 Fuel Filter

Thanks Number Cruncher; I think I will follow your advice and replace all the O ring seals - I would rather know that it is all done properly. The hoses look yellow, but I cannot see any splits or wear, and they do not feel brittle; the connections look in good condition. The major decision...

    W124 Fuel Filter

Thanks all, and especially Silver Saloon for the very useful link. Last night the car started fine after sitting in the garage for 2 days. There was no sign of any leaks, and no air bubbles in the hoses. However I am concerned that the problem may occur again. The only place fuel leaks were...

    W124 Fuel Filter

My 1995 W124 E300 diesel (606 engine) failed to start. The starter turned over, but the car would not fire. Lots of cranking (2 batteries worth) eventaully got her to fire up and I suspect fuel starvation was the problem. On starting, diesel leaked from the top of the fuel filter from under...

W124 300 diesel Oil leak at sensor?

Update The new oil level sender unit cost £37, plus £0.53 and £1.05 for the seals and £1.86 for the bolts which with Vat, adds up to £40.44. Labour was 30 minutes (including clean up of leaked oil from old unit). I do not know what the relevant torque settings were, but will ask. John
