    W210 lower ball joint replacement

And now I'm pleased to report that I did the job today and it was just like you said. I had to apply a bit of heat to split the joint - maybe I wasn't hitting it hard enough :-) Must have save myself a bit of money doing it myself!

    W210 lower ball joint replacement

My 2002 W210 Estate needs a new lower ball joint on the offside front. I've got the part, but it looks a bit tricky to get a ball-joint splitter in there to get the old one off. I'm assuming I'll need to use spring compressors before attempting to remove the joint (as is normally the case)...

W210 E240 Estate Rear Shock Leaking

Thanks for you replies. It's not too bad at the moment, I'm just getting a build up of muck/fluid around the base of the shock. From what you guys say, it doesn't sound too difficult. Do I need to bleed or prime the hydraulic system after fitting a new one(s), or will it all sort itself out OK...

W210 door rust - new MB procedure?

Yes, I've just had this treatment done to my 02 plate E240 Estate! Time will tell if it is effective "treatment" or not.

W210 E240 Estate Rear Shock Leaking

I noticed the weekend whilst changing the rear brake pads that my O/S/R shock is weeping hydraulic fluid. It looks like its been like this for some time. My question is, how easy is it to replace the shock and should I replace both at the same time. Given they appear to be about £200 each, I'd...

W210: Inside Track on reliability, costs, etc

Merc W210 E240 Estate Thanks guys, Yes I've driven it and it seems pretty good. I tell you what though, if I shut my eyes, apart from the two inches of play in my steering box and springy seats in my W123, the ride quility is no different! Thats either because my 123 is so good, or its...

W210: Inside Track on reliability, costs, etc

I'm very tempted to buy what seems like a very nice W210 Elegance Estate, registered June 2002. Its a one owner car, FMBSH, 7 seats, cloth interior, 6CD, etc, done about 50K miles and has the 2.6 V6 petrol engine (I'm still confused as to why its called a 240 and yet has the 2.6 engine)...

W123 Cold start and then cutting out

More W123 230E cold running problem analysis I think I'm getting closer to resolving this strange fault I have thats spoiling an otherwise fantastic car! From what I've managed to deduce and diagnose, power to the fuel pump is controlled by the fuel pump relay which itself takes input from...

W123 Cold start and then cutting out

Hi all, Thought I'd solved this one a few months back, but now seems to have returned with the first cold and damp morning for the last few months..... Got into the car about 6:30am the other morning, started up no problems then after about half a mile she just died on me and would'nt re...

    1983 W123 230E Inhibitor Switch

Does anyone know where I can get hold of an inhibitor switch for my auto box in the UK? I ordered one from Euro Car Parts, but it turned out to be the wrong one. My one is a square unit, kind of flat and part plastic and part alloy with a long narrow 4 pin connector block on the side. The...

W123 230E auto: harsh gear changes when cold

Not sure if this is a problem or not.... When I first drive the car after its been left for a couple of days, the changes from 2nd to 3rd and 3rd to 4th are very harsh for the first half mile or so (these cars always start off in 2nd unless you flloor it from standstill). Rather than make a...

W123 230E more fuel supply woes

Dieselman, Many thanks. I'll check this out the weekend. Got to be something daft like this. I'll also put a new dizzy cap, lead set and plugs in just to make sure its not an ignition problem. Given it was wet (damp) yesterday morning I could have a problem in this area. Took the...

W123 230E more fuel supply woes

This is unbelievable.... After having problems last week with my fuel supply and having fixed it the weekend and drove 250 miles with no problems, the same thing has happened again. A quick re-cap..... Last week my fuel pump relay was tripping out and (I assumed) was causing the fuel...

W123 Fuel Pump Relay problems Looks like I've currently got the same problems on my '83 230E. Its tripping in and out all the time now. I'm trying to get a replacement secondhand one for this weekend, but am struggling. Jay, I know you are in Coventry like me, do you have a spare...

    W123 230E Timing Chain Nightmares!

Tried to fit my replacement timing chain tonight after taking the rocker cover off, etc., the weekend. I bought an original replacement chain from Mark Cosovich so I know its a good one (Jiwis). I understood from the Peter Russek manual that what I needed to do was to split the existing chain(...

W123 Estate: Not so good - in fact very bad

Ok, I'm going to confess. I went to look at a W123 230 TE yesterday. It was in a bit of a mess and I walked away from it, the main problem being corrosion, specifically to the front bulkhead where the pre-tensioner springs fix to hold the garage door (I mean bonnet....) open. These mounts...

W123 Estate......Maybe have found one I'm going to look at a 1984 W123 2.3 TE Ltr Auto Estate tomorrow. Its done 195K miles and has a Merc service history up to about 150K. It all looks very clean and tidy. A couple of other questions, if anyone can help me with these today! I will need...

    W123 Buyers Guide and Tips

Mercedes W123 buyers guide Dear All, Many, many thanks for your replies and help. Much appreciated. The 230 seems to be the one to go for then. What about the 200? I assume its basically the same block and head as the 230. Is it likely to be a little underpowered? Graham
