Try reading the codes 1st, the OVP relays were discontinued, about the time 5 speed gear boxes were introduced.
Also just because plugs look okay doesn't mean they are. For the cost I'd just replace them anyway.

I've had similar problems with a sticking purge valve. I'd expect it to throw an emissions code though.
