I think if it annoyed me that much I would sell it on. There are plenty of buyers out there who won't notice the difference.

I think it saves a bit of fuel but my understanding is that it is mainly in use to reduce emissions. More to go wrong down the line perhaps....

I have always done the same as the seller of the BMW but I can see it would put some buyers off. I did not drive my W124 when I bought it but if I had been doubtful or suspicious I would have walked away.
