I’ve had a similar problem to yours.
Ripped off the display tape. I managed to get another instrument cluster but it didn’t work at first at all. I’ve sent mine to be repaired in the meantime.
Then, when I’ve connected it for, let’s say, tenth time it started to work BUT the mileage...
Depends what material you’ll be drilling.
If i was you I would look into drill bits sharpening technics a bit more.
Knowing that you can even sharpen the steel rod into fine “drill bit”.
