I thought I would post an update to this thread as I think I may have found the problem.
I still sometimes get the "drive Unavailable" message but it has been accompanied by "Power consumption too high".
I don't do a lot of miles and the car does lots of small journeys. Once or twice a week I...
I agree, it sounds either mechanical or electrical but I don't fancy putting grease or oil through the "letterbox". I'll just have to see how it goes.
Putting a cleaning disc though it won't cure that problem but I doubt it has ever been done before and shouldn't do any harm.
Well ya bugger!!!! After phoning round a Merc Specialist then an Auto Electrician I decide just to try the CD player one more time and it worked.
That's good news of course but I wonder what was causing it to malfunction. Anyway I will get a lens cleaning CD and run that...
Thanks Mark. There is a CD in the player which won't eject so I couldn't get a cleaning disc in there. It's my favourite CD too.
I'll give my local specailist a ring this morning if they are open.

I realise that it may mean the player is kaput but was wondering if anyone had...

I have nowhere to store tyres if I change temporarily for the winter season so...
Yes it is sad the way the British bike industry just collapsed. Royal Enfields are available all over the world and the only problem she had on both trips was with the head bearing which seems to be a known concern. I don't think she added any oil except during oil changes.
I would have loved...
Have a look Darrell, I think you'll like it.
It's best to watch series one, "Adventures with Basanti" first. That's the one from India to Holland. Then series two "Adventures with Dannho" where she goes to Patagonia.
I don't know if anyone on here has seen the Itchy Boots channel on youtube. It is a 32 year old woman from Holland touring alone on a 23bhp Royal Enfield Himalayan motorbike.
In the first series she drives from India to Holland via the middle east and in the second series she travels from...
Ok. I have found the hold function by pressing the brake hard in Drive. Pic attached. You learn something every day.
I have noticed that the car will creep forward in D if just using the foot operated parking brake Waste of time that thing, I never use it.
