What exactly are you wanting to check?
If I am not mistaken, yours is a W169 pre-facelift? If so check for rust around the doors - look behind the rubber door seals and also at the bottom of each door where the metal is folded back and welded. These areas are prone to rusting.
The ATF needs to be drained to get to the transmission ECU for repairs. Best to refill with new ATF, filter and rubber gasket upon refit of the ECU.
I would recommend getting new AFT from Mercedes as it is very reasonably priced and something that wouldn't be changed for several years/mileage.
