symptomatic of unnecessary car complexity impacting insurance

If the lights cost that much then they wouldn't be fitted in the first place. So what we have here is exploitation by the manufacturers of the simple fact that components such as mirrors and headlights and front and rear plastic body assemblies are frequently replaced because of minor...

    Where has this Disaster Originated?

It's noticeable that while talking F1 drivers repeatedly adjust their masks. A lot of people don't cover their noses while wearing a mask. And it's noticeable that with fabric and pape masks the seal at the top isn't very effective. So better than nothing? Possibly a substitute for social...

    Where has this Disaster Originated?

Well you can use statistics to prove or disprove anything. So - the headline figure for Covid-19 deaths in the UK is greater than the number of civilians killed in The Blitz in 1940.

    W numbers?

It's not 'more informative' - it is simply a piece of information which depending on context is usually less complete than using the number while possibly being more convenient. If a question about brakes or servicing or leaks or parts comes up then the advice tends to have to pin to a specific...

    W numbers?

So if you have a 2004 SLK200 - Is that one of the last of the 1996-2004 model - R170 or the 2004 onwards R171? So what is more frustrating - ambiguity or numeric pedantry and jargon?

    W numbers?

They seem to have been moving to F numbers over the last decade.

    Where has this Disaster Originated?

And the number of deaths doesn't tell the full story either. The numbers are impacted by behavioural changes. Without suitable qualification then numbers / stats can be made to apparently suit anybody's narrative.

Formula 1 2020 (Will Contain Race Day Spoilers)

Contrast with McLaren - apart from a pitstop fumble with Sainz - sorted out getting the drivers swapped on the track at the end to maximise their points - and sorted out CS who then got fastest lap. That's a T E A M. (And using the Renault engine).

    Good Car / Bad Car

I think my expectation of the brand was based on reputation. Our first BMW that I spent a lot of time with was an early E89 Z4 sDrive 23i. The drive train with a ZF 6 speed was outstanding. But ... the steering always reminded me of a Honda Jazz - bland - though it felt better when pushed. My...

    Good Car / Bad Car

I'm wondering if it is the clutch pack that came from ZF.

Problem is he doesn't seem to extract more from the team. And there are those who think he also became part of the problem at McLaren. I also wonder how much of his interest in driving in F1 is driven by his need to be in a position to promote his brand.

I stand corrected. Somehow I have managed a very specific recollection of the ZF 8 speed being used in the E63. I'll have some problem unwinding it.

FA will pass 40 in his 2021 return season and 41 in the 2022 season Meanwhile it and it looks like a possibility SV may leave at (only) 33.

    Good Car / Bad Car

The ZF 8 speed box is used my MB in the E63. I believe it's the version with the clutch pack which I assume is to facilitate launch control. IMO the ZF 8 speed box is still the best auto transmission - and opinions on the DCT haven't always been positive. If I was advising somebody on cars and...

    Good Car / Bad Car

Depreciation has been a shocker in the UK market - so to be fair this uncertainty is built into the pricing. An often overlooked downside of buying on lease/PCP is that you also tend to get hit with dealer servicing costs. MB in particular have conditioned its customers to thibnk £30/month for...

I don't think FA had any bearing on DR's decision. And I assume that Renault have only approached and confracted FA as a result of DR's departure. Renault engine did OK for McLaren this weekend. So DR presumably might look at Mclaren as a better opportunity even without their transition to...

    Where has this Disaster Originated?

Having followed this saga from the start with the original study - the whole thing stinks. It stinks because it shows how the original 'study' that proposed that hydroxychloroquine was some sort of magic bullet was flawed. It shows how some professionals became convinced that the drug was the...

    Trumps Beginning of the end

Well I have made comparisons with the run up to Brexit and our own political establishment culture. And those choices and the lead up to them over the previous years came about for similar reasons. I would compare the Tea Party and its effect on damaging the Republican party as being similar to...

    Trumps Beginning of the end

It only took a small number of voters who would have normally gone Democrat to swing the close outcome - with the electoral college (surprisingly?) also falling in his favour. A different Democrat candidate might well have done better. The US has to look at itself. The head of state has been...

    Trumps Beginning of the end

Having encountered a few US Democrat 'liberals' I've been pretty shocked by the invective against supposed Trump supporters from people who consider themselves decent and reasonable and yet freociously belittle people who don't agre with them. They don't get that Trump's support is probably as...
